Hello P.
It could be great.
TLDR: It’s a cool game and there’s lots to do. Customer support is terrible (even if you’re really nice). ———- I’ve had some fun playing the game. It’s a cool concept, and it takes a lot of strategy to be good. There is always a lot Going on, and many different ways to play the game based on what you want out of it. I’ve really enjoyed everyone in my alliance as well. Some people get upset about the strength disparity between those who pay to play versus those who play for free (or pay minimally). But that hasn’t bothered me very much. You just have to stay on your toes about using truce agreements to make sure you stay safe (shields to prevent pvp attacks). I am spend only a little bit while playing (maybe $20-$30 per month), because I feel like I still have an enjoyable time playing and only pay for things when there are some high-value packs or if there is a new general that I really like (most recent faves were Hestia and Frigg). Customer support is probably the worst thing about the game, and why I’m leaving a one star review. There are always bugs that need to be fixed with games like this, and when I’ve experienced this in other games customer support has always tried to make things right. But I experienced the opposite from Evony’s customer support team, and I’ve heard mostly the same thing from other players. As a disclaimer, I am not the kind of person who complains for every little thing, and I am always overly kind and grateful when I reach out to customer support teams. I think people are more happy to help when someone is respectful and nice. Lately, I have been prioritizing training troops and maxing out all my buildings (my keep is level 32 and all my other buildings are level 31 or 32). I haven’t really gotten into PvP yet and mostly just attack monsters and focus on development. We have a lot of very strong players on my server, so I’m militant about always having a truce agreement in place (I set timers to ensure I don’t forget). During a Kill Event (KE) in August, I used a 24-hour truce agreement before going to bed, but then it expired after only 3 hours. It was a KE, so my keep was attacked multiple times and I was zeroed. It was really discouraging. I don’t pay very much to play the game, so it can take a while to build up resources. When I woke up and saw I had been attacked, I submitted a support ticket and included screenshots of my truce agreement confirmation and also the expiration notice. I submitted the ticket on Friday and didn’t hear anything until Monday morning (I don’t think customer support works over the weekend). The response I received was apologetic and asked me to share screenshots of the battle reports so they could see what my losses were and look into it. I thanked them for the help and was optimistic that I’d receive help because I had all the proof I needed to show that there had been a glitch. After another two days, I heard back from customer support and they said I had attacked another player and that’s why my truce agreement expired. I was confused and checked battle logs to verify that I hadn’t joined any rallies on accident, and there wasn’t anything. I also don’t participate in PvP, so that was extra strange. I responded (respectfully and nicely) that there must have been some sort of mistake, explained how I don’t participate in PvP, and shared a screenshot of all my battle reports around the time my truce agreement had expired to show that I hadn’t attacked anyone. There was a bit more back and forth where support said they would check on the issue, I would thank them, and then they would tell me the game was working normally and my truce agreement expired because I attacked another player. I was always overly nice when responding to customer support because I was hoping they would be more inclined to help me out, but they never did. Evony’s customer support team takes at least 24 hours to respond, which was also pretty frustrating. I understand Evony’s team is busy and has a job to do, but the whole point of “customer support” is to actually support the customer. Even when I had proof, they kept blaming me and saying that everything was normal. In the end, their responses were dismissive and sounded like they were calling me a “liar” (without explicitly saying “liar”). This was the first time I had ever reached out to their support team, so it’s not as though I had a history of support requests every time I had a small issue. After a week, they just stopped responding to me. I’ve sent a couple of follow up messages (still being nice) saying things like “I know you’re busy, and just wanted to check back in so this doesn’t fall off your radar.” Evony could be a great game if customer support was better.
