Moving Experiance From Hell
Final Update: After destroying over $4,000 worth of my belongings, Elevated Moving Experts is now trying to shirk responsibility by claiming they contracted my move out to a third-party company (despite the fact they claim not to be a broker). Instead of helping me file a claim or engaging in good faith, they rudely sent me the contact information for a company I had never heard of — and told me to pursue insurance directly. From what I can tell, this company has no legitimate connection to Elevated, and it appears they are maliciously trying to push me toward filing a claim with a party that has nothing to do with my contract. Do not hire this company unless you are prepared to hire a lawyer as well. TL;DR: Elevated Moving Experts presented me with a “binding estimate” that was later ignored and inflated. The pickup crew was late, understaffed, unprofessional, and caused property damage. Billing was deceptive, communication poor, and I was pressured for cash “under the table.” My belongings were transported without proper wrapping, leaving my $2,000 mattress ruined, my $3,000+ couch filthy, and my bookshelf destroyed. Final cost exceeded the original binding estimate by $1,400, and the quality of service was shockingly bad. Details: I hired Elevated with the understanding that I had a binding estimate of $2,600 based on accurate measurements I provided. What followed was a series of failures: Late Arrival & Poor Communication Pickup crew arrived five hours late. Calls to the “customer service line” went unanswered, and I had to repeatedly call the company’s main line for updates. Insufficient Staffing & Mishandling Only one mover arrived for what was clearly a two-person job. I had to personally help move a king mattress and couch. The mover dragged my mattress face-down, unwrapped, through a dirty parking deck — a preview of how poorly my belongings would be handled. Property Damage While moving heavy items alone, the mover struck a chandelier, knocked a light fixture, and scuffed walls in my apartment. Deceptive Billing My $2,600 binding estimate was arbitrarily raised to $3,500 after a neutral inventory change, with no clear explanation. I was forced to pay an additional $400 “deposit for extra space,” even after removing items. After loading, I was hit with another $320 charge for “extra space” because my 6.5-foot couch supposedly couldn’t fit upright (even though I gave them that exact measurement upfront). At pickup, I was pressured to pay cash under the table to avoid “walking charges.” When I refused, the extra $320 charge appeared. No Updated Bill Despite multiple calls and emails, I never received a clear, updated bill before delivery. False Claims About Wrapping The delivery crew later told me the pickup movers claimed I “refused to pay for wrapping.” This is false. Wrapping was explicitly stated as included in the estimate by QA, and the pickup crew never offered it. The lack of wrapping is directly responsible for the major damage. Final Delivery & Damage When my items finally arrived, the Denver delivery team (who were professional and sympathetic) told me it was “one of the most careless jobs they had ever seen.” My mattress is ruined, my couch is filthy and damaged, and my bookshelf is destroyed. Final Cost vs. Estimate Original binding estimate: $2,600 Final cost: $3,900+ Overcharge: $1,300 Conclusion: This was a textbook bait-and-switch moving scam compounded by negligence that left thousands of dollars’ worth of belongings damaged or destroyed. Consumer beware: Do not trust their “binding estimates” or verbal assurances. Get everything in writing — and expect hidden charges and careless handling regardless.
