Kicked off for no reason. I asked twice for the reason why, and they didn't respond. Also, I was unaware of the payment lags. It makes sense to directly sell to these places. Sales from Smashwords pay out the following month. Sales from all retailers (except Amazon and D2D Print) are paid on a 2-month delay. Sales from Amazon pay on a 3-month delay. Sales from Print books are paid on a 4-month delay.

Like everybody else who was a former Smashwords client for a long time, the buyout and forced migration to Draft2Digital has been the worst thing to every happen to independent authors. I accidentally discovered that my account has been probated without warning or notification, and the support is some cookie-cutter response that borders on rudeness and artificiality. They stole my royalties without every sending payments for my books, while still selling them. Mark Coker has indeed betrayed the self-publishing community. Former Smashwords users deserve better. I'm starting a Class-Action, and anybody else who has been affected, can join in. This is REVENGE TIME to you Draft2Digital, you one scammy company!!!!

Well, thank you, Mark Coker, for selling out to this abysmal, ill-run, incompetent waste of time and effort. D2D is lumpy, ugly, glitch ridden and just VILE to use. As an author, it has failed me on every level. Trying to change a price on a book, or in fact anything, is nigh on impossible. It's just a dreadful platform, and it takes more in hidden fees than Smashwords ever did. The customer service is beyond terrible, in fact non-existent. Mark Coker utterly betrayed the authors who were with him from the start when he sold out to this appalling company. Shame on him.

Six years of loyalty destroyed by an algorithm. I have been with this platform since 2020, originally through Smashwords. All of my novels are 100% original—written by me, not AI, not mass-produced, not plagiarized. Without warning, my books were unpublished, and I was accused of duplicate content by their automated review system. When I appealed, I received what appeared to be AI-generated responses that ignored my specific situation entirely. No human ever reviewed my actual work. No evidence was ever provided. Just automated emails and copy-paste policy responses. Draft2Digital has failed its authors. Real writers with original work deserve better than being judged and punished by a machine. Avoid if you value your creative work and livelihood.

More than 10 years ago, I published some ebooks via Smashwords and was quite happy with that platform. At some point, my account and ebooks were transferred to Draft2Digital. I recently had a look at my sale statistics and noticed something that cannot be right: one book on Kobo has over five times more ratings than reported sales. My book has been available for free on Kobo for many years, and not a single free sale has been reported. I reached out to customer service about this, and the experience hasn't been great. Overall, they basically started arguing using false arguments. The tone was quite condescending. When I asked them to simply check with Kobo, they stopped replying to my emails.

After four years of publishing with them, they terminated my account, stole my royalties, and all the while lied that they were attending to my case. Suddenly since December 2025, the have a "KYC" verification problem and the service is too damn lazy to sort it out. Not even the CEO has anything to say despite me emailing him with my immediate needed support. Terrible publishers! Thieves!
