Shady about imposing fees on an awful UX
They're introducing fees for existing and new customers (including those that they acquired from Smashwords). But they were shady about this. The email notifying users of this WASN'T titled, as you'd reasonably expect, "Introduction of fees", but the vague, "Important Updates to Your Draft2Digital Account". So they're clearly trying to hide the fact. The email compounds their poor customer care by making no mention of how to close an account, and there is no mention in the FAQs, Knowledge Base, or Terms of Service. You can't seemingly achieve it yourself in My Account, which is very surprising as every other major website allows you to request account closure without contacting customer care. So when you raise a ticket you are shown in big red-font, "Please note that our team is experiencing a high volume of inquiries at this time". Well, duh. You reap what you sow. The website is oddly very hard to use on a smartphone - it's displayed as if you were using a PC browser, so you have to keep zooming in and out to find what you want. I very basic UX error. Yes they have an app, but I don't want another app (especially if it's as badly designed as their website). It wasn't surprising when visiting Trustpilot to write this that I discovered that their rating was rock bottom even before the fee imposition. How did they have the guts to introduce a fee for such a terrible customer experience? Amazing, really.
