I yanked my book from them. All the negative reviews about them are true. The distribution process is smooth, then here come all these issues. Claiming that retailers blocked my book, then when I go direct to retailers they put my book through. Liars. Go direct to each individual retailer to publish, if you can. Time consuming, but you have more control. So glad I only sold 1 book before yanking.

Not a pleasant company at all
Not a pleasant company at all. I have my books on many platforms like Google Books and Amazon, but Draft2Digital really, really doesn’t like paying its authors.
With any decent service, you get paid automatically at the end of the month. But with D2D, they seem to do anything to avoid paying you... email after email, you ask for the money you’ve earnt to be paid to you, and… crickets. Not a single reply. And when they get sick of you asking for the money you’ve earnt, they find a random reason to close down your account.
The reason they shut my account down was totally fabricated. Apparently, a kissing and hand-holding scene between two female characters is classed as sexual content?! They said I didn’t tick an adult content box when I uploaded the book, and that this is a valid reason to close an account to avoid paying me. Yet, they didn't say anything for the nearly year it was up, it just became an issue after I kept asking for my money.
The tags, categories, and description already made it clear there was some romance between two of the characters, but there is absolutely no sexual content at all. There wasn’t even a warning... just boom, account closed.
I mean, if you twist anything hard enough, you can make anything seem sexual... even books like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games.
Whatever. They’re a very scummy company and YOU all should avoid them at all costs.
They have ruined really mood and made me depressed and angry.
I want to write my ghost story to help cheer myself up. This one I will be sending to actual publishers who love books, love reading, and respect the hard-working authors and dont crap on them.

D2D kicked us out of their publishing…
D2D kicked us out of their publishing site. We had been with them since 2015. Books sell well (NOT AI). I took them down for a while and then decided to pop them back onto D2D.
All of a sudden, GONE! No longer able to upload to D2D. The books were not on any of the 'banned' topics listed, and like I said, they have been around for many years and previously published on D2D. So disappointing, and definitely not recommended to Authors!

No friend to Indie Authors
The platform is out dated and does nothing to help authors promote their work. And now they intend to impose fees on anyone earning less than $100 annually—essentially a tax on independent authors trying to build their audience. My entire year’s worth of royalties aren’t enough to pay the annual fee meaning I owe them money. I’ve delisted my books and closed my account but because my earnings are so low, they won’t even pay them out. Horrible service.

I was an early adopter of D2D but now....
I was an early adopter of D2D, going back at least 10 years when it was new, ultimately putting 10 or so books up (poetry, short stories, spiritual writings). I had great experience with them for a long time and they kept adding features and outlets. But last year I attempted to publish a short poetry book with pictures -- 8 pictures and as these were poems, maybe 200 words total as main content -- in other words, an illustrated chapbook. And I got a rude automated email back telling me the book would be delisted and that I was now on a watch list. The automated reply said I should put material like this in a blog! I wrote directly to D2D and did get a detailed response from an operations person -- that was good. But they told me with all the AI slop they had to deal with they now imposed all sorts of restrictions of book length etc. and that my book was too short! A poetry book! Since then they have added a long list of nonfiction topics that only "subject matter experts" (according to them) can publish, and they reserve the right to add more topics at will. And I just got word that an account maintenance fee will be added for those with annual sales of less than $100. In one sense I understand this is a tough business; but basically this fine service has been continually degraded and now acts as a gatekeeper, when in fact they are just a distributor, pure and simple, not an actual publisher which theoretically adds value to the authors they publish and can make editorial decisions in exchange (and I have published with big commercial presses, so I know the difference between the two). This is just part of parcel of a general internet trend of networks squeezing their users and making life more difficult rather than easier for them. D2D's demise is especially disappointing as it started out independent and progressive. I will be closing my account.

Beware of this company!
Starting to pile on fees for just having an account and making it very difficult to close your account so you don't have to put up with the fees. Also had the nerve to ask authors if they would let them feed books into Ai. Pro Ai. Anti indie author! Avoid.

D2D has killed smashwords dead with fees
I published at smashwords which was absorbed by d2d. Loved it, loved smashwords founder Mark Coker. it was completely free for anyone. When d2d I noticed they are based in Oklahoma and wondered how long it would be before they decided to charge fees. It started with pay to watch help videos. AND NOW THEY DO! New accounts 20$ and a 12$ sales sub performance fee. They have done nothing more then smashwords ever did for me and ditched features that made smashwords better. And fees will spread to other things they consider are inconvienient for them now that they have broken that "free" window. They have killed smashwords and will now drive away authors until they think they can't make enough money and sell or merge to become a traditional vanity press cheating anybody they can out of money
