I used donorbox to fundraise for a non profit running a school for refugee kids. We managed to raise £23k, on which donor box and Stripe (their banking partner) paid themselves a whopping a 6% fee. Absolute disgrace - they essentially charge triple market price and refused to apply a lower pricing for non-profit. This money was urgently needed by the school who is at risk of closing its doors, leaving hundreds of kids in the streets. Just IMMORAL.

I wrote the review below and got their response. I have written again to ask what 'on the verge of' means and they never reply. This customer service is terrible. They will not provide a phone number. It is illegal to be operating in Canada and yet they won't even talk to me - what do you have to do to get a response!!!!!!!

Our organisation maintains local paths and are piloting a donation scheme via QR code run by Donorbox. We’ve just found out that Stripe runs the bank transfer aspect for them and they’ve frozen the system because any documentation we send to prove who we are has been rejected. We’re stuck!

Donorbox seems to be the fundraiser of choice by scammers on social media. I assume the verification process is easier because there are many fake animal rescuers using them. One scammer even says all their bills are verified by Donorbox! Need to address this issue please. I currently distrust the platform. Tighten up your identification processes! Thanks for your response and sending through the fraud reporting link. I have reported two of your accounts for fundraising for non existent animal rescues who use other rescues’ imagery and stories.

This company is used by scammers/fraudsters claiming to help animals. Fraudsters target individuals and a lot of these accounts use Donorbox. I have reported people and Donorbox do nothing so they are complicit in helping out fraudsters which makes them just as bad. They clearly don't care about genuine people as they are allowing them to be scammed. Avoid!

This company is used by scammers usually claiming to be animal shelters in many places around the world. Although they are informed that such and such account is fraudulent they take no action and the scammers are allowed to carry on fleecing animal lovers. It seems donorbox doesn’t care about people losing money as long as they can carry on making money out of it. Avoid!

Before you donate to a fundraiser on Donorbox: Check if the campaign is authentic. I received e-mails from scammers who use the name of a well-known animal rescuer with her own shelter in Ukraine, near the frontline. The mails use fake stories and a link to a fundraiser on Donorbox. I asked the charity of the real activist and they confirmed that she doesn't use Donorbox and that the e-mail adress is fake. The scam fundraiser is anonymous, so Donorbox doesn't even have a minimum of security standards. The name of the recipient and identity proof should be required. Also name of the charity and proof of registration. I reported the scam fundraiser and the real charity did too, so animal lovers who donated can get a refund. But Donorbox doesn't care, after 2 months the page is still online and collects money (4600 Euros now). It's shameful that scammers can capitalize on the war in Ukraine with the help of Donorbox and take money that was meant for animals in misery.

Horrible organization. I made what I intended to be a 1 time donation to a local charity. And, I distinctly recall checking the 1 time payment box. Today, I received an email thanking me for my recurring donation! Head blowing off?! when I logged into DonorBox after several attempts, it tells me that they are not allowed to make any changes due to “PayPal Rules!” Again, head blowing off Now I’m chasing around trying to get the donation account canceled. If I have to, I will cancel my credit card and my PayPal account. I need this headache like a hole in the head. DO NOT DONATE through DonorBox or you’ll be sorry. Big Thumbs Down.
