Having been with Discover for years, I expected better. My FICO score has taken a noticeable hit every time they evaluate it, dropping by up to 30 points, which seems excessive and unfair. I reached out to customer service multiple times, but they always direct me to the credit bureau. It feels frustrating when other services don’t affect my score this way. While I appreciate their customer support, the scoring issue has made me seriously reconsider my loyalty to them. I just can’t overlook this anymore.

Complaint against Discover…
I am filed a complaint against Discover Financial Services regarding the mishandling of a payment made to my Discover credit card account.
I have been a Discover cardmember since August 2019, and this is the second time I have experienced this same issue during my membership.
On July 6, 2026, I made a payment of $5,045.14 to my Discover credit card from my checking account. The payment cleared my checking account on July 7, 2026, and the funds were successfully withdrawn. Despite the payment clearing my bank account, Discover did not timely apply the payment to my available credit.
My Discover account has a $13,000 credit limit, and after my payment, the system showed an outstanding balance of $8,000. However, my available credit was not updated to reflect the cleared payment.
As a result, on July 13, 2026, my purchase transaction in the amount of $42.38 was declined because my available credit had not been properly updated, even though the payment had already cleared my checking account six days earlier.
The fact that this is the second occurrence of the same issue since I became a Discover cardmember in August 2019 is deeply concerning. It suggests that this is not an isolated incident but a recurring problem that has not been adequately addressed.
Equally troubling is that Discover made no attempt to notify me that there was a problem with my payment. I did not receive a phone call, text message, email, or any other timely communication that would have allowed me to resolve the issue before my transaction was declined. Instead, I learned there was a problem only after my purchase was denied,
causing unnecessary inconvenience and embarrassment. After contacting Discover regarding the declined transaction, the representative proceeded to tell me that I needed to be on the phone with them to verify the funds for the payment, when the funds had already been drafted from my checking account.
I believe it is unreasonable for Discover to withdraw and retain my payment while failing to timely credit my account or make my available credit reflect the cleared payment. Consumers should not have funds withdrawn from their bank accounts while simultaneously being denied access to the available credit those funds should restore. This repeated failure raises serious concerns about Discover's payment processing and customer notification practices.
I respectfully request that Discover:
• Provide a complete explanation of why my payment, which cleared my checking account on July 7, 2026, was not reflected in my available credit by July 13, 2026.
• Explain why my $42.38 purchase was declined despite my payment having cleared my bank account.
• Explain why I received no phone call, text message, email, or other notification regarding this issue.
• Correct any fees, interest charges, or negative credit reporting related to this incident.
• Explain what steps Discover will take to ensure this recurring issue does not happen again.

Tried to convince me I was within the time frame, despite being woefully past their promised time.
Discover sent me two emails: the first, saying I'd get my card within 3-9 business days. The second, saying I'd get my card within 1-5 business days. It is now 9:48 pm on the 10th business day since the first one was sent, or 6 business days since the second one was sent. I called customer service on Friday (the 9th or 5th business day, depending on which email you base the time off) and was told that if it wasn't here by the end of tonight, to call customer service again. I called customer service again, they told me that I should have received a cardmember agreement in the mail and only AFTER I signed that, would the card ship out. They said that since that has not arrived, I'm still within the time frame.
So, they originally promised I'd get the *card* within 9 business days, and yet I haven't even received the precursor *before* the card within 10.
I live in a very safe neighborhood, where not a single instance of porch thievery has happened to me or my neighbors since we moved here 5 years ago. I also double-checked with three different customer service representatives that my address is correct. If I were told 3-11 business days, this wouldn't be an issue, but the false promise makes me distrustful of this company. Since the card was approved but not activated yet, I may just apply to a different bank that I can trust more than this.

Our horse had an emergency vet bill so…
Our horse had an emergency vet bill so we used my wifes Discover card for the charges and it triggered something. The very next day we received a phone call from discover questioning our finances and identity. We've never had a missed payment even though our business was destroyed by hurricane Hellene. And we got no help from FEMA or the SBA, or anybody.....
They told us we needed to send them notorized copies of our bank statements of they will close her account. I don't think we need to kiss a credit card companies ass to have their card. So I let them close it. Then A week later Capital one bought them. I can see a lot folks on here talking about retaliation and I can believe it. So I canceled my card and I will no longer accept Discover at my business. You treat customers like the enemy, eventually you run out of customers.

Customer Service Is Part of Security And This Failed
Dealing with fraud on your account is hard enough, the last thing you expect is to be treated like a burden for seeking help. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened when I called Discover. While the fraudulent charges were addressed, the representative I spoke with delivered the kind of passive-aggressive, dismissive attitude that makes you question whether customer care still exists in customer service. When I inquired about updating my last name on the new card, a perfectly reasonable question, I was met with condescension, as though I had somehow inconvenienced her for not already knowing the process. It was unprofessional, unkind, and completely misaligned with the support Discover claims to offer. I’m giving two stars only because the fraud was resolved, but the experience left a lasting impression, and not a good one. If this representative is the standard, then perhaps it’s not just the card that needs replacing.

Overall
Overall, it's an ok card but the representatives at the call centers do not know how to do basic math when they calculate your transactions. It's really funny because I know what's on my statement and the correct charge while they do it wrong. I asked them when the pending charges will fall off because it's been pending for 5 days and the lady said months. Imagine waiting months for a charge to fall off. That's hilarious. You're better off just doing your own math.

Discover cancels accounts and lowers credit without warning
So I used my Discover card for a few months when I first got it, but paid it off like a good person.
I went to go try and use it and they had canceled my card.
I eventually did find the email, but they never even sent me a letter and when I called them, the manager said they will NOT even consider re-opening it. WOW
All because I hadn't used it in a while. They could have at least sent an email or a letter saying they would cancel it if I didn't use it within X months, but they didn't.
I spoke to a friend who said the following: "they cancel accounts that have not been used in over one year. Happened to me. No warning, no appeal, nothing. I also know they downgraded my son’s credit card limit because they thought his utilization rate on OTHER accounts was too high. Again, no warning, his card just gets declined when he thought he had ample available credit."
They used to be so nice to me and now this. TERRIBLE experience now.

the Feds hurting them & they making customers suffer
Faithful cardholder for a few yrs
Cashback match is a great perk to join
but once this card is put into rotation it’s just ok.
Credit monitor & fraudulent alerts come kind of standard nowadays, my beef is with the credit increases especially w/ this current economy situation.
You can follow bankrate 3 rules to getting a good chance @ getting the increase & I still got nothing, please adjust that algorithm to lookout at least for good standing current customers.
The live loan reps usually give out some valuable tips about their company, credit questions & other alternative solutions.
due to interest rate raising rapidly your interest rates on your card are changing w/ out u knowing & credit increases aren’t a priority anymore
Some companies like credit 1 are charging to up your limit, this company falling off they almost down there w/ them.
