-10 star. Worst company for power and gas combined. Do not use this company. We have auto debit for our bill and they continue to not take the full amount out, or they skip a meter read and tack it on the next months bill without a heads up. This is the second time we’ve had a 800 dollar bill in a row. And our power/gas consumption has not gone up. Garbage rip off company.

If there was less than 1 star thats what I would have picked. What a disaster of a company. From a website that requires you to set up a ‘new account’ everytime you use to a 3 month process trying to add electricity to our existing gas account only to find out they ‘rejected’ it 3 months ago I can say this is one of the worst managed companies I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I spent probably 3 hours over 3 months on the phone getting things ‘sorted out’ only to find out that repeatedly setting up an account - with an assurance the problem was solved - 3 times - I finally gave up and went to Epcor. Took a grand total of 10 minutes to get everything set with Epcor. Oh - and here’s a recommendation to the management at Direct Energy: having Direct Energy Regulated Services and Direct Energy Services is not HELPFUL to the consumer who sits on hold only to be rerouted, re-routed, and given phone numbers that are not for the area that the customer needs is a recipe for an angry consumer. I feel bad for your call centre as half of the incompetence resides with the management in that company.

Could not setup autopay or any type of payment credit, or bank draft. Spent over 2 hours on the phone trying to pay my electric bill. Finally the supervisor took the payment over the phone. Use anyone else, anyone. Their customer service is the worst. 2 hours of my life i'll never get back.

This company will tell you your delivery fee for energy consumption of 0GJ will be waived then send your balance to a collection agency.

They suck! Pushing sales people promise you that you will pay less then the current provider whice end up bring the opposite and end up paying for both of the providers when changed to direct energy. When I called to customer service and told them that they lie about the amounts promised they don't really care and saying you agreed to it all! Stay away! I wish I read the reviews before.

I would rate them a zero, should have pulled the pin with the switch to average billing. I asked why I was paying more, as I kept track of the last 6 months of usage. I even asked them the rate, and the math does not add up. My bill has doubled, and I am not even home using power. The usage amounts are the same, but my bill doubled. They tried to take three credit card payments the same day. My bank had put a hold on my card, due to suspicious activity. I would gladly pay for one inconvenience charge but three is ridiculous. Drove my electric bill from $280 to $420 for an apartment I’m hardly living in. Going from $64 per month to $154, and then to $280 for a two bedroom apartment does not make sense. Switching companies for sure, reading all the complaints above we should all get together and do something about this.

If I could give DirectEnergy 0 stars I would, they are scammers. They end up charging you more than your actual bill for transmission/distribution fees even if you used way less. For example I use about 150-200$ in Electricity/Gas together and they will charge you an extra 200$ during the holiday season for transmission/distribution charges making the bill cost upwards of 400$ or more. If you call them up on the phone and ask about this they will respond with saying that it's for "work on the pipeline and maintenance" that needs to be done which is a load of horsesh*t. I called up Enmax/Encorp and quite a few other companies and they also confirmed that they should not be doing that and they confirmed that they are essentially scamming you out of more money during the holiday season. Especially with El Nino happening during the year of 2023 in Alberta, these charges should be substantially lower as there is practically no snow in the area and we are barely hitting the negatives each day. DirectEnergy are leeching money from their customers that they shouldn't be and an investigation should be done into embezzling funds from customers. They also went ahead with removing budget billing as an option for low-income households and forced everyone into a thing called "Average Billing" where they control the amount of money that is being taken from your bill, you no longer have an option to pay less as even if you use the amount you use per month they will charge you for what you used ALONG with that giant transmission/distribution charge. The funniest thing is that when they automatically change your plan back in October 2023, they say " Your plan has just been upgraded to Average Billing! " and in no way is it an upgrade. I went with Enmax/Encorp after coming across this problem and they charged me the exact amount that I should be charged per month without those ridiculous transmission/distribution charges that DirectEnergy charges, and if there is those charges, it is a negligible amount on the bill and isn't more than what you even used for that month. Do not use DirectEnergy or give them any of your money, and if you are using them, switch to another electric/gas distributor as they will scam you and with all of the money extra that you've given them they will not give back to you. They say multiple times that they offer cashback benefits and not once have I received cashback on my bill or being sent to me. They are scammers, do not use them.

I've been on the phone about 10 hours trying to get electricity turned on. I've had 3 new accounts set up for the same address in two days, talked to literally 9 people. Finally yesterday scheduled Monday (I started this Wednesday and was told Wednesday it would be on that day). Got an email "You authorized Direct Energy to start electricity service at ## on 12/28/2023"... today is the 15th
