Their recordkeeping is not accurate
Their record keeping is not accurate. Their communication is very weak. Due to the way they do business they’ve lost a customer who has paid off four cars and a house, but yet they can’t can’t finance a HELOC on a fully paid off house with above 790 credit score and with the loan a 12% DTI, They are worse than a big bank. Don’t waste your ding on the credit score.

Desert Financial has been one of the…
Desert Financial has been one of the worst credit unions I’ve ever dealt with.
I waited on hold for 40 minutes just to finally reach a representative who was unable to provide any real help. I was simply trying to get a 10-day payoff on an auto loan, and I was told I had to email them and wait 24 hours for a response.
For something that should be a simple customer service request, that’s incredibly frustrating and inconvenient.
In my experience, Desert Financial’s customer service has been extremely disappointing. If you’re looking for a credit union in Arizona, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. ONEAZ Credit Union has been a much better experience.

I’ve been with desert federal for over…
I’ve been with desert federal for over 3 decades, and have had several loans with them. I actually have three loans with them now. I’ve never been late on a payment. I just traded in my car and they just declined my new loan. What else do you have to do to gain trust with them, besides having a perfect payment record?

Hi Markley, we are so sorry to see that you feel this way. We reached out to our loan team for assistance and they were able to jump in and help! We appreciate you bringing this situation to our attention.

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating this situation must be—especially with a time-sensitive closing and multiple parties depending on timely communication.
What you’ve described is not the level of responsiveness we strive to provide, and we sincerely apologize for the difficulty in reaching our team. We take concerns like this very seriously, particularly when it impacts an active transaction.
We would like to escalate this immediately and help get you connected with the appropriate contacts. Please reach out to us directly at (602) 433-7000, so we can assist you as quickly as possible.
Sarai was an incredible banker, and I have nothing but positive things to say about her. She was professional, respectful, helpful, and genuinely the one bright spot in an otherwise very disappointing experience with Desert Financial.
Unfortunately, my experience with Desert Financial above the branch level was completely different. Everyone I dealt with beyond the branch treated me in a dismissive and condescending way, as though I was not capable of making my own financial decisions. I was attempting to complete a documented business transaction, but Desert Financial created a narrative that I might be the victim of a romance scam and used that as the basis to interfere with the transaction.
That explanation was inaccurate, insulting, and deeply frustrating. The transaction involved a real business, formal documentation, and available verification, but instead of handling it through a serious diligence process, Desert Financial treated me like a child.
To be clear, this review is not a criticism of Sarai. She was excellent. If the rest of Desert Financial had handled the situation with the professionalism and respect she showed, I would have been happy to remain a customer. Unfortunately, the conduct above the branch level made that impossible.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review—and for recognizing Sarai. We’re glad to hear she provided you with a professional and respectful experience.
We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience outside of the branch did not reflect that same level of service. We understand how frustrating and discouraging that must have felt.
In certain situations, we are required to take additional steps when processing transactions. These measures are in place to help protect our members from potential fraud and financial harm, even though we understand they can sometimes feel intrusive or unnecessary—especially when you’re confident in your transaction.
That said, how we communicate and handle those situations matters just as much as the steps themselves. We’re sorry to hear that your experience felt dismissive or disrespectful, as that is not the experience we want for any of our members.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
