DentaQuest is PAINFUL!
Needed an emergency extraction of a split tooth. The pain was excruciating! I was told a few days earlier that surgery couldn't be performed if there was heavy infection with severe swelling so I reduced the swelling using an oral rinse, brushing, disinfectant, cold fluids & gum massage. I was in the chair ready to be sedated when the doctor said DentaQuest wouldn't pay for the tooth removal. I asked why? He stated because the gum looks almost normal so it doesn't meet their criteria for an emergency extraction. I confirmed with him that if I had come in while the gum was massively swollen with bleeding discharge, my insurance would have paid for this procedure? Correct. What in the world??? I had to wait several more days in excruciating pain, couldn't eat or sleep normally, missed another doctor appointment, lost several pounds, canceled my birthday events, lost work time & had to take so much pain medication my ears were ringing. DentaQuest should be forced out of business for endangering the lives of their clients. UPDATE: The tooth was removed a week later but it was too late. The infection spread to my bloodstream & caused an infection in my left armpit area resulting in substantial inflammation, pain, bulging veins, micro clots and temporary loss of the entire arm (thought it was a stroke at first). Took antibiotics for several days & the the arm is back to normal now. Two takaways from this experience: 1. I changed dental insurance providers. 2. I learned NOT fool around with tooth infections. Get the infected tooth out of your system as soon as possible!
