DE Academy Turned My Career Path to Data Engineering.
I am very thankful to DE Academy for helping me grow my profession from full-stack developer to data engineer. The educational structure, teaching methods, and mentorship/1-1coachings offered here are unique.
The mentors provided data engineering techniques like pipeline development, database optimization, and flexible architecture design. Group meetings and Q&A sessions to enhance the areas where we are having difficulties.
What actually sets DE Academy was the effective planning and structure. From the start, I had a clear plan for what I would learn, and each lesson built on previous ones. Their hands-on projects allowed me to apply my knowledge in real-world situations, increasing my confidence and ability in this fresh field.
Thanks to DE Academy, I not only got technical knowledge but also developed the mindset of a data engineer.

As someone who is very skeptical of…
As someone who is very skeptical of these online programs, including the various screening calls… Chris’ program was 100% worth it. I was stressed about the price, but my offer will pay for it in one paycheck…!!
I was part way through a few interviews when I decided to join and immediately plugged into a community that work RELENTLESSLY to help you build confidence in your Data Engineering ability and land a job.
I’ve been a DE for 4 years, but wasn’t sure how my skills applied to other DE roles in industry. The gap method helped me learn what’s out there in industry instead of struggling for weeks hoping the job I get an interview for is applicable… If you take the program seriously, take notes on the videos, and try hard during the mock interviews it is worth every penny.
In tech, there is no road map to navigate a successful career. This replaces the black box that is job requirements and the abyss of Reddit advice.

I am not buying these services!
I am not buying these services!
As another user mentioned, I got a first call where they asked me a lot of questions, only to schedule another call with the salesperson. Then I got on the sales call with another fellow, who started with the usual: "If this is not the program for you, we will part ways." Why are all coaches and mentors using this strategy lately? It's plain wrong.
Anyhow, a LOT of more questions came my way, only to say that I did qualify for their Personalized Training. Since I am a seasoned corp-exec with 20+ years of experience, he told me that I could become a member of their Diamond Program, for an unreasonably high amount of money.
Although I should have ended the call at that point, I kept on listening to try to understand what could cost that much money. That's when he started talking about the gap method and showed me how it's implemented and more. In other words, exactly the same process that an entry-level aspiring data scientist would get!
He also mentioned that I would have the full engagement of the founder in my case and a guaranteed job offer.
When I asked if I could talk to other C-suite clients enrolled in the Diamond Program, the answer was, "Sorry, but we don't usually do that." This triggered all the alarms.
A company selling training packages that is not willing to let their premium customers talk to each other, and share experiences, clearly is not worth the time or the money. Especially not that amount of money!!

Thank you for sharing your impressions. Our students are free to reach out to each other and that is easily done in our community of students and alumni. However, we do not give out their contact information without their explicit prior approval.

The best decision I’ve made for my career.
Joining Data Engineer Academy has been a life-changing step in my journey to becoming a Data Engineer, and I can’t recommend it enough.
The Gap Method isn’t just a teaching technique—it’s a transformative approach that bridges the gap between where you are now and where you want to be in your career. My success coach, Chucks, has been an exceptional mentor, guiding me through the challenges of SQL and ensuring I stay motivated and focused.
This program is unique in its personalized approach; it’s not just another set of modules but a tailored experience that adapts to your pace and goals. The support from the DEA team is phenomenal—they’re genuinely invested in your success and always available to provide insightful feedback or advice.
As someone in the early stages of learning SQL, I’ve already made significant progress, and my confidence in securing a future job is growing every day. What sets DEA apart is their dedication to practical learning, with hands-on training that prepares you for real-world challenges in data engineering.
If you’re serious about breaking into data engineering, this program is a no-brainer—I can confidently say it’s the best decision I’ve made for my career.

I was excited about the concept...
I was excited about the concept of the Data Engineering Academy, but unfortunately, the execution left much to be desired. The course material was extremely weak, often outdated, incomplete, or even inaccurate. Instead of engaging, skill-building projects, the assignments felt more like basic "paint-by-numbers" tasks, offering little opportunity for real growth. Collaboration and team-building exercises were almost nonexistent, which is a huge missed opportunity for a program of this nature.
The program demands a significant time commitment—equivalent to a second job—but the support structure doesn’t justify this level of effort. Many instructors are in vastly different time zones, making it nearly impossible to schedule meetings. Even when meetings do happen, some instructors lack interpersonal skills and can come across as snippy or rude.
On top of that, communication relies on the free version of Slack, which was a red flag from the start. When the free trial expires, you have to jump through hoops to maintain access to the instructors. A more robust and accessible platform like Discord would have been a much better choice.
Given the cost of the program, I expected a much higher return on investment. Unfortunately, the course fell short. For the same price, you could gain far more value by pursuing certifications, books, or other resources that provide comprehensive and up-to-date material. While the concept of the academy is promising, its poor execution makes it difficult to recommend.

Hi David,
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. We've requested contact information so that your mentor can get in touch with you and get more details on the experiences you shared.
When it comes to the course material, personalized plans typical include 6 or more projects that require a variety of skills to complete and enable you to apply acquired skills in a practical manner, using tools that are in-demand. Our projects are regularly updated as we have a real-time pulse on the job market demands since we are applying to job roles for our students daily. When it comes to collaborative endeavors, this is something that would indeed be of great value. We offer that in our separate, internship service that we offer to students who have completed most of their training. Otherwise, it would be incredibly challenging to have all students participate in collaborative projects from the start as everyone has their own skill gaps, their own personalized plan and pace of progress. We have facilitated some collaboration through our study buddy initiative.
The program does not require a 40h per week commitment, or even a 20h commitment. Each plan is adjustable according to student's availability. Our coaches are indeed in different time zones, however all coaches work US hours, mostly business hours, but also mornings and evenings for some coaches. Now what you've shared about interpersonal skills is indeed concerning as we take communication very seriously. This is one of the reasons we would appreciate hearing more and being able to contact you.
We are aiming to move away from free Slack as we understand it can affect client experience, even if it takes 1 minute to rejoin it using the guidance we send via email. Some of our clients are older and Discord is not something they would find intuitive to navigate, so, for now, we have decided to dismiss Discord as an alternative.
To your final point, we are not claiming perfection, things can always be polished up. We are however claiming results and outcomes as this program is designed for that for anyone that sticks with it, believes in themselves and knows there is no reason they cannot be another success story. The ROI is not in a website with no typos. The ROI is in the paycheck our students get once they land the amazing role they'd been working hard towards. Books, certifications and courses don't translate to interviewing skills, job applications and job offers. Our program does.

My journey to become DE
A few months ago, I had the privilege of joining this team, but due to my course load, I couldn't complete the task at that time. However, my counselor, Mr. Chucks, and the rest of the team were incredibly supportive and cooperative throughout. Now, with positive vibes and renewed determination, I am confident that I will soon begin the interview process and ultimately land my dream job. This experience has reaffirmed my belief that this is the perfect path for me on my journey to becoming a Data Engineer.

As someone with no prior experience in…
As someone with no prior experience in IT, I can honestly say it wasn't easy from side to fully grasp the course outline Initially, I was apprehensive and unsure if I could keep up, i nearly quit. However, the program's structure and the support from the team made all the difference.
When I hit a major roadblock and felt like giving up, Chris and my coach Stefan went above and beyond to help me. They re-personalized my course to better suit my learning style and level of understanding. Stefan, in particular, was incredibly dedicated. He took extra time to break down complex Python concepts into simpler and also supplemented the lessons with additional resources from external sources, ensuring I had all the tools I needed to succeed.
The personalized attention and encouragement I received were pivotal in my learning journey. Thanks to their efforts, I not only overcame my initial struggles but also gained confidence in my ability to tackle IT challenges now im done with the python and im doing pandas. I highly recommend this bootcamp to anyone, especially those without a background in IT. Their commitment to student success is truly remarkable.
One more thing, Use the slack channel to communicate your challenges and struggles and if you new in the IT field, let the emphasizes be on that, so that they can tailor the course outline to fit you which might be different from those who already have a background in It!
