Data Engineer Academy has provided a valuable learning experience. The structured syllabus and timeline were particularly helpful in keeping me on track. While free resources are abundant, the Academy's accountability and direction from their team have been crucial in ensuring I focus on immediately beneficial skills. This structure has significantly enhanced my learning journey.

My experience with Data Engineering after the first month or so.
My experience with Data Engineering Academy so far is really great. It’s because it’s really exciting that various types of data can be manipulated with Select Query Language (SQL), which is a programming that relates to Databases. Also the instructors and staff members of the Academy do a really fantastic job of communicating with me about the my progress with the curriculum. Also they’re very open to helping me gain a clear understanding the the learning material.
I’m right about at the point where I’m finishing up with the SQL course and beginning with Python.
I’m looking forward to learning more about the concepts of Data Engineering with the DE Academy. I’m also excited to see where it will potentially lead me to in the near future.
Update 10 minutes after writing initial review:
Before joining DE Academy, my goals were to eventually work in software development. It’s because I felt as if it would be really great to work in a field that involves making computers communicate with the world around them. I didn’t have any doubts or challenges about learning data engineering. It’s because I’ve been exposed to Database and SQL (Select Query Language) before. I found it fascinating that it’s an extremely useful method of deriving detailed information from spreadsheets.
I enjoyed the program in that the instruction in SQL is very involved. I’m taught various ways to derive info from databases in order to fine-tune specific information that is helpful to various corporations.
The instructors are very helpful; they provide a variety of different job aids for helping to master the material.
Since joining, I’m steadily improving as far as knowing how to derive specific types of information with SQL. I’m also just now learning the basics of Python, which is a programming language that’s useful for various applications, one of them being data engineering.
I’d recommend checking into the DE Academy to see if it would be a good fit. For a person who loves learning about technology, if nothing else, it would expose a person to various aspects of the data engineering field. This would help the individual to decide which path he or she would like to take forward in life.

DEA experience
Just had my first mock interview with Stefan. Went by way better than expected - in a way expected to be told: passed or failed, but got something much better. Stefan gave me a detailed review, what I did well, what I need to work on and made sure to schedule a follow up. DEA gives you all the tools for you to succeed, great program!

Payal’s teaching style is engaging
Payal’s teaching style is engaging, interactive, and highly practical. She doesn’t just focus on theory—she ensures that her students gain hands-on experience with ETL pipelines, data modeling, cloud technologies, machine learning, deep learning, and big data frameworks.
What truly sets Payal apart is her patience, enthusiasm, and dedication to student success. She fosters an environment where questions are encouraged, challenges are embraced, and learning is continuous. Her real-world insights and case studies bring data engineering to life, making complex concepts much easier to grasp.
In addition to technical training, Payal also provided invaluable guidance in behavioral interview preparation. She helped me refine my storytelling skills, structure STAR-based responses, and confidently navigate cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership-related interview questions. Her mentorship significantly improved my ability to articulate my experiences effectively, ensuring I was well-prepared for both technical and behavioral interviews.
If you’re looking for a highly knowledgeable, inspiring, and results-driven coach in Data Engineering Academy, I highly recommend Payal Dehhia. Her mentorship has been invaluable, and I am truly grateful for the technical skills, strategic thinking, and interview confidence she has helped me develop.

Not what it used to be
I had liked this course when I first started, but I needed to take a long break, and getting back into it, you can definitely see it's flaws. Seems like they have grown too quickly, and they do not have the resource to keep up with the amount of students that have joined.
The course materials are not well written or designed, especially learning Python coding. There are multiple errors and gaps in the training materials. The coaches also miss their calls often.
If you do not already have a background in data analytics/data engineering, this would not be a course for you. They really do not have the infrastructure or support for people who are learning from scratch, even though that is what they advertise. I do hear their

Highly recommended to anyone wanting to land in a Data Job.
I joined as a student and am still undergoing training, but I feel incredibly fortunate that the universe led me to Chris's YouTube Ad where he explains how to master data skills through DE Academy's mentorship program.
From my very first call, I've been impressed with everything about the experience. The materials are exceptionally well-organized, eliminating any guesswork. The program is structured with clear discipline—setting proper expectations, accounting for my baseline skills, and providing personalized gap analysis that shows exactly where I need to focus to succeed.
Thank you! I'll share another update when I cross my finish line. I have absolutely no doubt I'll have countless more kudos to give to Chris and his amazing team!
