Actual price is DOUBLE the quote
To begin I provided my inventory over the phone as is standard for this company. They quoted me at around a total of $2800 for a move to Florida. It seemed reasonable with $700 paid upfront and the rest split between pick up and drop off. I am also military so I made sure to request weight tickets for the movers and was assured I would have them. 1. The movers showed up with no weight tickets insisting that they had never been told they were needed. It took a painful week of calls back and forth to ensure I received anything resembling a weight ticket. 2. When the movers showed up they were surprised at the amount of items I had (which matched my inventory) and then informed me that it would be $4500 total, not the previously quoted $2100 for the move. They said because countrywide only provides them with the estimated space, and the estimated space countrywide gave me was far too small apparently. 3. Countrywide assured me the movers could recieve card for payment, this was incorrect they could only take money orders or cashiers check. Obviously, I did not have either of these ready and this led to more headaches. 4. I am still waiting on any form of electronic receipt or invoice to use for records, despite being on the phone constantly with their partner "star line trucking" for a week and being assured that its going to be sent to me. Overall, it seems this company purposefully gives low quotes to bring in business and then when the movers shows up and double the price they say "its only an estimate" and you are stuck paying double what was quoted. Management was unhelpful and just repeated that the quote is "only an estimate" despite a 100% increase. They are either scam artists or grossly incompetent, I am not sure which. Either way, do not use, especially for military members
Response from Countrywide RelocationNov 26, 2024
Gino, Again, our apologies in the standard procedures to any Interstate moving company. We do our best to be as accurate as we can on the cubic footage being reserved for each customer. However it is always a difficult task being that all sofas, entertainment centers, coffee tables, lamps, rugs, boxes etc... are not all exactly the same in shape or size. So this is one thing that changes one reservation to another. Not only does the shape and size vary, but the stack-ability of each item is crucial in the total amount of cubic feet needed. Unfortunately the only way in preventing changes like this is for estimates to be given in person which are never easy tasks being that the trucks are on the road everyday of the week, in most cases they are coming from a different state to pick up the customer. So coordinating it with everyone's schedule is usually near impossible to do unless the customer is near one of the movers warehouses. I did continue to ask Star-Line for updates in helping resolve your requests and in completing the move successfully. Which I am hopeful that has happened. Countrywide Relocation
