They charge $10 to cancel subscription
They don't tell you when you sign up for consumer report or I didn't see it in any fine print that it automatically renews. When I saw that my checking account had been debited $39.00, I contacted and canceled my next year's subscription. They charged $10 to cancel the subscription so buyer beware if you are going to get it. Make sure you see the fine print. I have never heard of such ridiculousness.
Response from Consumer ReportsSep 23, 2026
Consumer Reports memberships automatically renew unless canceled. This is a standard practice and is disclosed during checkout. We also send a renewal reminder approximately 30 days before the renewal date to the email address on file. Our policy provides a refund within seven days of renewal, less $10 for the first month of access. This gives members time to evaluate their renewed membership while continuing to support Consumer Reports’ independent work.
