I would like to thank the IELTS support group for the help, updates and tips that everyone is sharing to one another. To the Swoosh team, a big thanks for making my IELTS journey smooth and productive. I'd say that I am too fortunate to be a part of this scholarship program and to those who are here, don't worry as you are in good hands. Most importantly, it would be impossible for me to achieved my goal without your countless support and encouragement.

I know in myself that IELTS, especially the speaking part, would be so challenging because I'm an introvert and a very reserved person. So when Connetics, in partnership with Swoosh, offered a scholarship with their comprehensive IELTS course, I did not hesitate to grab it. The course was very easy to use and follow and what I'd liked about it was there were lots of practice tests in each milestones, aside from the full mock tests. Also, there were live classes, though I'd only attended a few of them mostly were speaking and reading, which I struggled the most. After 5 months of self-practicing and completing all the milestones, I'd booked my exam. Unfortunately, I fell short by 0.5 in speaking, but the rest were 7 and above. I did got tongue-tied on part 2 of speaking test and I believe the reason was I did have kind of similar topic when I was practicing and I was trying to remember the words that I used. It was a bad idea. So after that, I just focused on the speaking part alone and after a few months I'd took my second exam. Still, I got 6.5 in speaking. I was reflecting on what went wrong, I thought I did better than my previous test, I realized that I was repeating same words multiple times, maybe that was the reason and another factor was my nerves. I was really anxious on that day I thought I was not gonna make it to the venue but I did right on time. I was really down that time, not only because I failed but also I did really get sick. When I was feeling better, I did get back on track and focused on speaking. It was a bit late when I learned where the recorded classes were. Finding about these, really changed my life. I hadn't attended so much classes other than the first few months when I was starting this course. I found out that there was a new teacher, Else, who I got the greatest strategies for speaking. I wasn't able to attend her live classes as I was trying to catch up on her lessons and then my subscription ended. I learned a lot from her and it made me realized all the things that I'd been doing wrong. So after a few months, I had the courage to sit for an exam. While waiting for my exam to come and with my subscription ending, what I did to prepare were to watch a lot of English videos, which were mostly interviews, talk shows, documentaries and sitcoms. Aside from that, I read books out loud and sometimes with emotions like I was really having a conversation. Reading that way really helped me with pronunciation and decreased my awkwardness when speaking in English. I was not wrong when I said it would be challenging for me. It took me over a year and had to sit an exam for 3 times to finally succeed. Speaking= 7 Listening= 8.5 Reading= 7.5 Writing=6.5 OBS=7.5 I'd also like to share some few tips during exam. Eat before you go to the venue, make sure to arrive early (maybe at least an hour before your exam) this can help you relax and might as well practice some speaking questions as warm-ups before the actual exam, deep breathing to calm your nerves and lastly, drink water before speaking test (sometimes when we're too anxious, our throat dries up). I am really grateful to Connetics and Swoosh for giving me the opportunity to become part of this program. I am very thankful to all the teachers in this team and also to Ms. Jennifer Oltjenbruns for all the encouragement.
