CJ Pony Parts Experience
CJ Pony Parts (hereafter, CJPP) has been for many years one of my goto suppliers for parts, recommendations, and installation advice. Although this review highlights a poor experience with the package (packaging) and subsequent requests for redress regarding my most recent order from the company, it may not be representative of a more holistic evaluation of the current state of play at CJPP. I say this despite their TrustPilot rating which sits at 1.7 stars, the result of 73% 1-star and a mere 15% 5-star of ~177 reviews. With a A+ grade on the Better Business Bureau’s site, CJPP has earned 1.25 of 5 stars in customer feedback. Yelp finds CJPP a 1.3-stars over 281 reviews. Recently, I ordered a set of Steeda Rear Subframe Support Braces (# 555-5754) from CJPP. I paid a total of $390.63, which included $38.06 for shipping and handling (provided by FedEx) of a package that arrived late, damaged, and with a part missing. The box, which appeared to be something they reused from previous returns (kudos for “recycling”), was crushed, perforated, and torn. Beyond that, a number of washers, one of which was missing, were scattered in the folds of the packing material. I cannot comment on why those washers were not included in the sealed pack of installation hardware that came with the braces–but reasonable speculation could posit that this set was a return CJPP simply taped back up and shipped out to me without a proper inspection beforehand. That probability would be supported by the condition of the box. So, in total, the package was missing one washer. Some might say no big deal–an assessment with which I might tend to agree. That is, until I stopped to consider for what was I paying and why shouldn’t CJPP be given a chance to make good on such a menial failure.Well, that’s what I did. I reached out to CJPP to inform them the box arrived in poor condition and to confirm that I did in fact have all the parts necessary for my installation to proceed. Maybe I only needed 7, not 8 washers, an idea I implied in my email by noting there was no inventory or instruction sheet with which I could have confirmed all the parts were included or not–an idea lost on their customer service representative. The response I received was concise or curt but certainly not helpful. I can’t read too much into the tone of the response which is absent any concern, never mind solution, but the interrogative at the end could be interpreted as a second-grade attempt at a sardonic quip. “You appear to have all of the hardware with the exception of one washer. We have an installation video. Please see the below link?” I replied in kind, “Ok, so I guess that means the kit is incomplete. Does CJ Pony have a remedy for this shortfall or am I off to the hardware store?” Certainly, my concern doesn’t come near the expense and problems that others have faced. In fact, many might say the damage and missing parts are not worth the trouble to mention. But that’s not the sole measure of dissatisfaction here. It is, in a word, CJPP’s utter apathy. UPDATE. CJPP responded: "We apologize for the inconvenience and if you could go to the hardware store that would be great. Please except this 10% code on items that apply for your future order." Well, my view remains unchanged. Aside, does the phrase, "that would be great" ringa bell? Office Space.
