I rented the Mountainside Lodge from Carolina Cabin Rentals.
In the description of the house, it stated that it was necessary to have a 4 wheel drive in the winter months because the driveway was steep. But in JULY, we could not get all of our cars up the driveway and had to find parking elsewhere. Worse than that, our bus/van transportation to and from the wedding could not get up the driveway. With a handicapped person, this was a nightmare.
This cause an extreme amount of stress for what was supposed to be a fun, relaxing wedding weekend.
Also, all of the beds are extremely high except in the Master bedroom. This is not friendly to elderly or handicapped.

petty charges
My stay was pleasant, but I left a ring at the rental. I notified them when I got home and it was found by the cleaners. I was happy they were shipping the ring to me for $9, but later charged my card $40 for "lost and found service." What a needless money grab. As a tip do this as a courtesy, and have customers interested in staying at one of your properties again. Repeat business is worth more than $40.

Disappointed In Our Riverside Retreat
We rented the Riverside Retreat in Boone from 2/9/22 - 2/16/22. Nice on the inside for an older home however...
Our party was unable to get into the cabin using the entry code which was emailed to us. I tried to reach the agency for approximately one hour with no response. Finally, we received a text from someone who gave us a totally different code than the one we had been given. That was baffling.
The driveway and parking area was hazardous. We had driven two 4 wheel drive trucks as advised but there is no appropriate vehicle for a solid sheet of ice. At one point a driver slid under his vehicle trying to get in his truck. We had to walk on this ice to unload our luggage and our groceries. We had to make a trip to the local Walmart to buy several large bags of a rock salt substance which worked really well when it was spread but we should not have been responsible for this. The house was fairly clean but Christmas decorations still up in mid February which gave us the feeling no one had cleaned recently. Had to pick up a few dead bugs and spiders and vacuum the rug in the main living area which was covered in dried mud. There was a lovely dining table for 10 and sleeping arrangements for 10 people but we had one small frying pan to cook in. There was a baking sheet in the cabinet with the outline of bacon from the last person who used it. There was one other pan that was covered in burnt food which we opted not to use. We bought meats to cook on the grill, another "amenity" that did not work. The grill temperature would only go as high as 160 degrees. The cabins we have rented in the past were all well stocked with cooking supplies and utensils. We looked everywhere for the fire pit, another "amenity". Found it after 4 days way down the mountain from the cabin. My husband took his computer as he works from home. There was zero WiFi. Someone did come up to check on it but when they left we still had zero WiFi which lasted for the entire trip. We had no cell service. The house phone did not work. No way to contact the rental company. Hot tub took 24 hours to get to a temperature warm enough to get in. The pool table was a must for the older children but the pool sticks were old and not well made. Again, we traveled to the local Walmart for pool sticks. Overall, not a good experience. Won't stay there again. We have used Carolina Cabin Rentals in the past and had a good experience but this trip was definitely a disappointment.

The Hilltop Haven House dirty, dusty and disappointing
The Hilltop Haven House was nice but simply lacked cleaning and basic maintenance. We were excited for our family vacation with 7 adults and 7 kids ranging from 3 years old to 15. Upon arrival, everything was dusty, dirty and you can tell there was a rush to turn over. Dishwasher was full of dishes amongst other things that stuck out immediately upon arrival. One room had dirty sheets laying on the bed. Immediate disappointment was felt as promises of COVID cleaning measures would mean more than normal cleaning would have been expected. Instead 14 guest arrived to dead bugs on the floor and debris all over the bedroom carpets. I’m not sure you if the cleaning crew have their own vacuums, but the one located at the residence was junk. Almost all of the chairs surrounding the fire pit were busted. We immediately reached out to Carolina Cabins and they sent a maintenance tech who fixed two light bulbs and replaced the broken chairs but didn’t address the other issues. The hot tub was absolutely gross with dead flies, flaking insulation and brown slim around rim. Everything we experienced was in direct contrast to the contractual terms and statements of COVID-19 cleaning. I feel bad for the home owners who are probably not aware of the need for a deep clean and failure of the company to best represent their interests and their guest.

Beautiful place, unfortunately not clean
Let me start off by saying the property was beautiful and had absolutely gorgeous views! We stayed at 1 Heavens Peak. Unfortunately our stay was somewhat ruined by how dirty the property was. We came to find dirty dishes in the dishwasher, food in bedrooms, a dirty refrigerator, food in couches, and stains on the bedding to name a few things. With Covid, I already planned on wiping things down with Clorox wipes. After we started wiping things down it was very disappointing to find how dirty things were. I did contact Carolina Cabins and they did offer to send someone out to rectify the situation. It was 8/9PM and I didn’t know how long it would take someone to get up the mountain. We wanted to begin our stay to begin and get comfortable so we decided to clean everything up ourselves. Carolina Cabins also provided $100+ tax as a refund which seemed very minimal after spending over $2000. They assured me this wasn’t their norm and that this would be a learning experience for their cleaning staff. With everything that was seen, it appeared that house hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned in a long time. That’s very disheartening since with Covid, you would think a more thorough cleaning would be done. Also many light bulbs were blown out around the house. The telescope didn’t have the proper batteries to work and the light fluid bottle for the fire pit was empty. Also beware one of the doors is broken and it was extremely difficult to lock. My family and I still had a great time and are planning on making this a yearly trip! Unfortunately we will not stay here again. I also don’t recommend staying here due to how dirty it was. Please see pictures.

Sugar Mountain Escape and Carolina Cabin Rentals
Wow - what a less than pleasant experience. We arrived at Sugar Mountain Escape around 5 pm on Monday (checkin at 4 pm) to find that this cabin was falsely advertised as having “central air”. We chose rentals with central air due to me having asthma and my husband having allergies. We also found dishes that may or may not have been washed in the dishwasher and used soap in the master shower. So, we are not sure if the shower was cleaned. So we called Carolina Cabin Rental and left a VM within an hour of arriving to discuss this. A gentleman named Tim called us back about 20 mins later. We had found roller air units, 1 with a vent out a window and the other in the master bedroom that blew hot air out the back. Tim said he could send someone out to fix the unit, but then realized as we had told him, there is no central air in this house, so there is nothing to fix. We also found that the ice maker wasn’t working as well. And it appears there has been a problem with the refrigerator before due to floor being a little warped around it. He said would contact the manager and have them call us since there was no other cabin for us to go to and see about compensating us for it or we could cancel our vacation. Seriously? At 9 pm a lady (the manager) called and said that they had a system glitch 2 weeks ago that caused all their homes to show that they all had central air - this is not true this house since we had booked this cabin over a month prior. (PS as of Sunday when we were leaving on their website they are still falsely advertising this house as having central air.) She also said she would work on getting a “window unit” for us and offered to have someone clean - uhhhhmmm - we’ve already done that now, so no thanks. She offered us $275 for our inconvenience (we are paying $381.91 a night) uhhhhmmm no thank you. Gonna need more than that for this “inconvenience”/false advertising. I don’t think the NC Real Estate Commission considers a rolling air unit with a pipe out the window central air. So, it’s now dark, we brought our dogs and we’re going to let them out. It’s very dark, a very steep driveway and a flood light is out making it difficult to see walking the dog at night. Made note of that to contact them Tuesday. We ended up having to open the slider door in the master bedroom to blow the hot air from the roller unit outside. PS this thing is so loud it’s like a 747 engine blowing all night - so no sleep. It’s now Tuesday morning, we get up and there is water underneath the refrigerator so we clean that up. Tim calls again and we make him aware there is the leak of the refrigerator now in addition to the ice maker not working and we need a flood light replaced. He said he would get back with us on that. According to him, the manager that called last night had to talk to her manager as they discuss a refund for us. A lot of manager layers there, no wonder management fees are so high. Anyway, almost a full 24 hrs since we arrived, and a young man arrives about 4:20 pm to install the roller air unit and pipe it out the master window. We asked about the flood light and refrigerator and he said he doesn’t do that. So, still not fixed. PS the roller air unit they installed was louder than the other that blew hot air out the back. So, no sleep. Wednesday morning, Felicity called and left a message making sure the air was working. When we called back, we told her yes but it’s loud, and inquired about the flood light and the refrigerator. She had to go back to look in the system because she had closed the service ticket - the services had not been completed. After looking at it, she said she would have to get back with us on those items. When we asked about a refund, she said she thought Tim had taken care of that. When she looked in to it further, it’s still with the manager of the manager and being looked at. Obviously the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. Very frustrating when you take off time for work and have to deal with headache after headache. When is there time to relax? Wednesday came and went with no flood light replaced, no refrigerator repair and no other calls from Carolina Cabin Rental. We slept a little bit with the jet engine blaring in the room, I guess from shear exhaustion. We never heard another word from Carolina Cabin Rentals the rest of our 6 day stay and nothing was repaired. The towel continued on the floor and the refrigerator continued to leak. Sugar Mountain Escape continues to be listed on their website as “central air” which it is not.
