Inconsiderate and Insensitive
I want to share this so other guests know what to expect if a genuine medical emergency forces a cancellation. On July 2, 2026, about a month before our scheduled August 3 Carnival Paradise sailing, I underwent emergency retinal detachment surgery. My surgeon issued a written restriction against travel through October 2, well past our sail date. I provided Carnival with the surgical documentation and the signed medical letter before cancelling. Carnival’s Guest Admin team instructed me to cancel the reservation specifically to allow a compassionate review, and confirmed in writing that the review would consider the cancellation penalty. The review that followed was a templated denial citing standard terms and conditions. A follow-up response confirmed that Carnival’s Executive Team does not personally review cases like mine, regardless of the medical documentation involved. I have worked in hospitality for over twenty years and I know the difference between a genuine service recovery process and a scripted one. This was the latter. If you are relying on Carnival to show flexibility in a real medical emergency without purchasing their Vacation Protection plan, know that they will not.
