The local office was great at first, we even referred a family member to them, then they never called the family member back, and then the person we were dealing with would constantly say he would call us back but would shove us off on someone else in the office. He didn't have the courtesy to call us back, and when an issue we had thought resolved previously from years earlier came up unresolved, and they basically weren't going to get commissions or make any money out of it they didn't have enough courtesy to contact us and talk to us. They had another person in the office email us and tell us if we can get this fixed let them know. There was no contact from the actual loan officer we had been dealing with, and no notice there was an issue until the other person emailed us. No discussions of possible solutions. I have never dealt with a lender or lender representative who was so focused on only helping you if they were making money off you. If these people can't get any money off you they don't have time for you. There are better companies out there than Tuan Nguyen's Cardinal Finance Office.

Well things started well. Spoke to Brian F and had a great conversation. Really thought things were moving forward. He took my information and asked me to do some homework and get back to him. I emailed him for 2 weeks and heard nothing back. Everything just went cold. It was so strange that I wondered had he been fired or was he sick or on vacation. Then he sends a mortgage package out of the blue in the mail with no explanation. I was not expecting anything and it seemed like a quasi-preapproval but again, just credit assessments and such but no information on the next steps. I email him and his only response was to ask for my phone number. LOL - he spent an hour on the phone with me initially and sent me 50 pages of paperwork and did not have my phone number??? Bad sign. I was turned off and chose not to resume any further contact. It started well though...

I don’t even know where to begin. I suppose it started with an internet search and a phone call. I doubted anything would come from the call and I should have trusted my gut. It was an awful experience that caused my hair to thin out drastically from the stress. I don’t blame the loan officer or his supervisors but Cardinal Financial should fire their entire underwriting staff. They are the slowest I’ve ever heard of and couldn’t get their act together. From the beginning my husband and I were “conditionally approved” provided we upload all the paperwork they asked for. Soon after, we had the VA home inspection and had to fix quite a few things considering we were in the middle of renovating. After maxing out my small cards in order to pass the inspection we were told we were waiting on underwriting to approve the final bits. Time and again underwriting would ask for more paperwork that I would upload almost immediately and would have to wait a week for them to tell me they needed something else added. They should have told me everything they needed at once rather than add a few things every week for two and a half months. It took underwriting so long that my credit score dropped due to the mandatory renovations required for approval. This sent our account to the credit committee. We ended up selling our RV for almost nothing to repair that harm to my report and we were excited to find out the credit committee went ahead and approved us and we were told we would be signing our contract within days. That didn’t happen. One of the people handling our account was replaced by a woman (Holly) that NEVER answered her phone... not once... but every once in a while she would email or text with an excuse as to why she could not answer and never returned my calls even though I told her in the emails I would rather talk to a person than text. After complaining about her, the first coordinator was put back on our case, and it seemed to be back on track. Not so much... The teams switching caused the underwriters to switch and the new ones thought they caught a late mortgage payment to our current lender. My current lender wrote a letter to Cardinal Financial explaining that we had a surplus in the past from paying too much in taxes so they applied that amount to our payment and it wasn’t late. Underwriting at Cardinal didn’t like how the smaller lender handled their paperwork and decided to deny us after more than two months of working with them... so after a credit drop, a terrible RV sale, and a credit committee approval, we were denied. I’ve never worked so hard on something in my life and I can’t stop crying. They say that I should be able to reapply in December with better chances and they said they are refunding my two home inspections. This is the only reason they are getting more than one star. I believe Greg, Dawn, and Adam worked extremely hard for us. But seriously their underwriting is the worst! Constantly asking for more ASAP and not getting back to us till after I call daily for a week or so. They are costing good people time and money. I’m sure their sales team has lost more clients due to underwriting’s negligence. There is so much more to write but I am too depressed to continue.

We started our process with Cardinal and liked our loan officer Guy. After that we have been perpetually stuck in a document request hell that ultimately lead to us walking away and losing the money we had put out on the appraisal for our refinance. This company cannot get out of it's own way! They don't know what each other needs and it seems to change with whoever is working the documents. I think we had 4 different processors.
