We locked into A great rate and interest rates began to rise, their focus became confusion and intimidation.
The loan officer and document specialist lack training to understand the 1040s or 1099s. Cardinal Financial website speaks of Octane an interface to send documents to them; however, documents disappear from the website and their employees have no knowledge of receiving them. It's like groundhog day over and over and over again for the same document requests of which were previously sent. When you tell them the document was sent 2 weeks ago, they give no explanation. Cardinal financial refuses to accept financial documents prepared by A CPA/ tax attorney or Trust attorney.
You ask for A supervisor? they ignore your request. You call their customer service to complain and they transfer you to collections. You ask for the president of the company? your request is ignored.
Cardinal financial acts like A company gleaning financial information for what purpose who knows? Obviously, not for providing A loan.

Nightmare
We recently purchased an income property in Colorado Springs using Cardinal Financial. I caught no fewer than 3 mistakes on documents that would have cost us $20K. Our Loan Officer kept asking for docs which we had already provided multiple times. I believe she solely relied on technology without actually reading over the docs that were sent to us through their web portal called Octane. We were literally putting out fires within 1 hour of the close!
I will never use them again, and do not recommend.

The absolute worst
The absolute worst ! Melville office run by very inexperienced people. Constantly lost paperwork, I got to the point that I would forward the 1st email right back to them over and over ! The branch mgr was beyond rude every time we spoke with him. We were given several closing dates beginning in March. Closing dates kept changing then covid hit. I was told that if my daughter was furloughed we would have a 6 week period where we would be OK not affecting closing. One night at 930 we received a call from the branch Mgr, Sal, telling us we needed an additional $20,000 to show in our bank account! Needless to say I was a bit upset, his was response was," if you don't have it fine, deal is done!" I of course was taken aback, but we pulled it off. Next thing we knew we were into May, two weeks after my daughter was furloughed! but was told have no fear. Well the day before closing I received a call the deal was dead ! My house was packed, which I kept putting off but was assured by them to go ahead and do. So in short, we were dragged around from January till May and lost the home we fell in love with. It of course cost us money . We spoke to their compliance dept., a waste of time and a bigger waste of time was the eastern. regional mgr., just as rude! Stay clear of this place !

Terrible the most terrible experience…
Terrible the most terrible experience of dealing with any kind of financial institution. Let me be very honest right upfront, 1 star is way too much. Cardinal is not worth any star. They have no communication or customer service whats so ever. Outside of costing me and my husband money..theyve done Nothing but cost us time & money. Im telling you run ..this place is pathetic. Run for your life if you value your hard earned money. The right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing. If that doesnt bother you then proceed but this place is bad bad news. They accomplish nothing on your file, they answer no emails. When your closing date is set, nothing is ready and you have no closing anyhow..Who Does That ??? Absolute Worst..i could go on & and on. With my whole honest heart, i tell you they are a true nightmare. They loose and misplace all information that you send to them. They have no timelines that they stick to, your closing date will come and go without happeninh and you will be left wondering if the loan is even going through ? You will be in this process for two months doing everything theyve asked and you wont ever be able to reach a sole to even ask a question. You will scratch your head and say Who is our loan officer anyhow ? I dont even know their name !!!!

Worst experience ever
Worst experience ever. After 2 months 3 closing dates hours of paperwork I am now in more debt have a bad credit score thanks them dinging it 4 times and no loan. The worst customer service and everyone you talk to tells you something different. They ordered the wrong type of appraisal and then told me my only option was another type of loan with a higher interest rate. This has been a nightmare if you have just started the process with them and something doesn’t feel right stop it now and save yourself the stress.

My wife and I had a horrible experience…
My wife and I had a horrible experience with Cardinal Financial. Things started out well, but soon soured. They are incompetent in handling documentation. They mislead us about fees. They were slow or non-responsive when we tried to contact them. We had to schedule three separate closings – and one was a no-call and no-show. The worst part was that our agent, Greg Halon, told me at the start of the process that Cardinal did not sell their loans and handled servicing them. We found out that was a lie less than a month after we finally closed telling us that our loan had been sold to FannieMae who was using some servicer that was definitely not Cardinal. Do not let the low rates pull you in.
Our full story -
At the start of the process, we repeatedly asked if our HELOC was an issue and said that we could pay it off if it was a problem. Cardinal told not to worry, but then the initial request for documents utterly failed to ask for any documentation regarding the HELOC, which concerned us because we knew it was a cloud on our title. There were other confusing aspects to the initial document request as well. They asked for three years of my tax returns, but only two years of my wife’s. They asked for “proof” that our freestanding home in a traditional intown neighborhood had no homeowner’s association. We thought that the rate was good, and that our contacts at Cardinal would sort it out. We continued to move forward.
The process was slow enough that we twice had to send updated paystubs because the original ones were “too old”. We were told to upload them, but could not because there was no way to simply upload a document to the Octane system they are so proud of. We had to email to send sensitive account information.
We finally got close to our first scheduled closing date. They finally focused in on the HELOC we had been telling them about all along, and told us that it would not be a problem because they would just charge us hundreds of dollars to subordinate that loan. We refused, and said we would just close the HELOC.
This was when things really start to fall apart. We immediately contacted WellsFargo to close the HELOC, and they told us that they could get the closure letter in time, but it would be close. We asked Cardinal for a fax number to send the closing letter to, and asked Wells Fargo to send it. The next thing we hear is a communication from Cardinal seeking to set our closing. We agree to a time, believing that they have everything they need. We hear nothing from Cardinal, or the lawyer, and the lawyer never comes. We call the next day, leave a voicemail, send an email, and they say, they will reschedule it. We set a new closing date a few days later.
This time, the lawyer actually contacts us, and tells us that we need to supply our own witness, so I have my mother in law join us for the scheduled time. On the day of closing, my wife communicates several times with the lawyer. The lawyer says that she does not have the paperwork from Cardinal, and she doesn’t know what the problem is. The closing time comes and goes.
In investigating this closing failure over the next few days, we learn, for the first time, that Cardinal claims to have never received the HELOC closure fax from Wells Fargo. They had, at no time, reached out to us about this issue. By now, we actually have the hard copy letter that was mailed from Wells Fargo, and, in fact, have had it for days. We are told to upload it to Octane, which of course, we cannot do because Octane does not support that. We scan and send it to them. By now we have also pushed us past the end of our rate lock, which Cardinal offered to extend for fee that compounds daily. We told them we would not pay it, and they agree to waive it.
We get a new closing date, again ask my mother in law to come to our house, and get a new set of closing documents. Documents which again reflect the rate lock extension fee. At this point, I made it absolutely clear to Cardinal that we would not pay fees for their mistakes and would walk away. Cardinal finally got paperwork together without the fees they had said that they would waive. We managed to close. Amazingly, after closing we continued to receive updated closing documents, as if the closing had never occurred. Our call to Cardinal was confusing (were they still looking for documentation?). We started calling the settlement company, and, about a week later, the closing was finally processed.
A few weeks after they processed the closing, I discovered that our agent had lied to us. Greg Hanlon told us that Cardinal did not sell their loans and serviced themselves. This was completely untrue. Less than a month after we closed, our loan was sold to FannieMae. The only upside is that I never have to deal with Cardinal again.

Difficult to deal with.
Was well over two months for a VA refinance; the fees continued to go up as did the monthly payments. Continuously asked for more documents. In my opinion they seem to not understand the VA process. We finally cancelled the deal. We will be looking elsewhere.
