We installed two spaces with California Closets this year and overall had a tremendous experience.
From the beginning the designer did a great job taking the time to understand our use case, making suggestions, and taking our feedback to come up with a final project design.
The installation was great and the end product matched the computerized visuals very accurately. We love both our laundry room space and also our dining room area that we had done.

If I could put no stars I would
If I could put no stars I would. I got a Murphy bed for my studio apartment thinking it would be extremely helpful but the issues do not stop with this thing. They did not attach it to the wall correctly and after a three appointment consultation someone on the phone told me maybe the wall isn't compatible. Why did you come to check and say yes then? They fixed it with metal brackets that looked horrible and had to come back for a fourth time to put a moulding around which looked better. However, now the wood on the drawer has completely fallen off showing it was attached with a strip of what best describes looks like extra sticky tape. Do not spend thousands on anything here because you will be hit with problem after problem.

Poor craftsmanship and terrible customer service
This was our first time designing and having a new closet installed in our new home. We got quotes from a couple companies and ultimately decided for $1500 more to go with California Closet since it's a "reputable" brand and they stand by their "quality." The white glove service was hyped up so much before the install and what we received was nothing close.
We got our new system installed on 4/15 and we quickly realized there were a ton of issues with it. There were chipped shelves, the support beams for the backing weren't even cut and installed properly. The backing wasn't attached to the wall fully, some of the rods were scratched, you can see the nail holes, the nail holes that were "patched" don't even have the correct color of caulk on them, and most importantly, the color of the system was completely wrong. We asked for a bright white color upon design and were given the classic white when we should have received dove. This is a mess up on the designers part for not understanding the difference between the classic white and dove - knowing that the dove is the brighter white. The dove color was never even given as an option. The designer also should have been able to recognize how bright our walls are and gone with or suggested the brighter white. When we had our shutters installed, the designer was well versed enough to understand that we needed a bright white with our house. Now when you walk into our closet, you can clearly tell it has a yellow and at times grey tone to it. The trim pieces that they put on are bright white so it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Extremely unhappy with the install, the designer came back out and went over everything with us and brought back out the samples. We quickly realized we should have had dove instead of the classic white. We asked if they could make things right and install the system in the correct color and the GM said no because we signed a contract. How was I supposed to know the difference between the classic white and the dove if it wasn't explained to me or I wasn't given the option? There has been absolutely no accountability on anyone's part about that screw up. Second, regarding things that were scratched or chipped, it was just chalked up to it being shipping. I can understand that, but as a company, maybe you should wrap things up and ensure they don't get damaged during shipping. You also have no idea if that came from shipping or the installer not being careful. Third, there were no apologizes or sympathies for how the system was installed. The installer did a half ass job and I would expect this from a contractor on his first day of the job. Again, white glove service got hyped up so much and there were so many issues with it. We were told the system would be wiped down and instead I have scuff marks literally everywhere and I have a nice mark on my ceiling from their leveler.
We wanted to have our laundry room redone and another closet and I will absolutely not being using California Closet for these projects considering their poor craftsmanship and not doing right by the customer. This also isn't our forever home so we most likely will want to do a closet system in our next home and guess who we're not calling. We had a few people who were thinking about getting their closets redone as well too and we won't be referring them to California Closet. I paid almost $8,000 for this system and it looks like crap. It almost would have been close to $10,000 for the system but because of a promo they had going on it was cheaper. I paid $8,000 for probably a $3,000 install. It looks awful and feels cheap. And if they screw something up, don't ever expect them to do anything to correct it. They'll just sit here and tell you it's the contract even though every single person we dealt with throughout this whole process has screwed up. They can't take accountability. Again, we have not received one apology or even a further discount. I hope after our service request we never have to deal with this company ever again.
I wish I had gone and read the reviews here on Yelp before deciding to go with this company because it looks like I had the same issue as a lot of other people. Don't believe all of the Google reviews you see.

Worse customer service i've ever got…
Worse customer service i've ever got from a company. I built 2 houses and thus was a very small job and i had a very bad experience with the sarasota california closets.

Poor craftsmanship followed by bad designing, installation, and more.
Unfortunately the reputation did not align. Yes, they are very expensive. Did the work match the price?Absolutely not. They cut corners (pun intended), disregard the companies standards, and disappoint.
From poor designing, scratched materials, elementary installation, and a very argumentative general manager, this company simply disappoints.
The customer service as well is minimal. Emails do not get responded to, installers seem depressed, the general manager seems to have status as if he is better than others and comes across belittling, and so much more. Learned this first hand while on site at my own home (pertaining to the general manager). Very unimpressed.
You can see from the videos and photos what I am referring to.
There are many options out there these days, and unfortunately this coming has gotten too comfortable and is lacking craftsmanship and integrity. I would avoid them.

Quality, Detail and Great Customer Service
I am a repeat customer of California Closets—and it’s easy to see why. I started with a walk-in closet as a splurge, saving up to make it happen. When the installers arrived, I was blown away. This isn’t typical chipboard construction that falls apart after a year. Every piece is crafted, the fit and finish are outstanding, the drawers gently close, and the overall look is stunning. It was like enjoying the finest pastry—I had to get another.
Same expert installation, same incredible attention to detail. Then came the idea to add a Murphy bed in the guest room. Christine helped with the design and provided a 3D walkthrough I could explore, and Josh Dickinson handled the installation flawlessly. Again, amazing.
I may be over the top, but we recently added a small closet in the laundry room. This one is beautiful, with soft-close doors and slide-out shelves. Vacilli came for the install, and his attention to detail was exceptional. Our loft was built in 1891, an old factory turned into condos, so the floors and brick walls are a bit uneven and off-square. Vacilli took the time to make everything look perfect, even adding exceptional trim details.
I can’t say enough about Christine, Josh, and Vacilli—they know how to make things right. From closets to Murphy beds, every California Closets project we’ve done has been exceptional. Each installation just makes us want the next one.

We had an outstanding experience
We had an outstanding experience purchasing at the Palm Desert location with Ashley. She did an exceptional job value-engineering a beautiful master closet, ensuring it fit within a reasonable budget. The quality and installation were excellent, and when a minor issue arose, it was promptly resolved to our satisfaction.

We Trust Them…
California Closets did six projects in total for us - our pantry, Mudroom, his/hers and hallway closets. We are planning on using them again once we get our downstairs renovation underway. They’ve been reliable in responses, site surveys and installations. Only issue is their pricing - they are pricey but all in all, their work can be trusted.
