Little support from staff. 3:1 student ratio undermines learning for both the staff and students. Proprietary test prep books are largely useless and have little correlation with the actual test. Center staff had an attitude--I ended leaving half my credit unused and went to other companies and independent educational consultants. Glad I sought help elsewhere as I will be attending Northwestern University next year!

Just bad and boring

For English (SAT prep and college essay help), there is really only one good tutor there and it is difficult to get a class time with him. For math and physics (advanced subjects like calculus), it is the same case, but the only good tutor has now left the center. I had been taking classes with this tutor and was given no notice of this until the day of when I called to confirm my class. It didn't seem like I would have even been notified if I hadn't coincidentally called that day. For chemistry and biology, there are no good tutors there. The center seems to not communicate well with their tutors either, because one day I showed up for my class and the tutor was not even there. I was told the tutor would show up later but he never did, and they wouldn't even give me the WiFi password to do my other work. I still had to argue with them to not charge me for this class, even though I did not actually get tutoring that day and I was forced to waste my time as I stayed the whole 2 hours, expecting the tutor to show up. When I took practice SAT tests there, the room was often overcrowded and noisy, making it difficult to concentrate. Even though there was a sign up sheet, it wasn't capped and they didn't seem to consider how many students actually fit in the testing room. Overall, the center seemed good at first but as I was actually a student there over the past couple years the quality of tutors and service has declined rapidly. Their communication to the students is very poor and it seems like they care a lot more about making money than actually helping the students. It is extremely difficult to get classes in time slots that actually work — they keep only offering me a 1:30 slot and I am still in school during that time. All but one of the good tutors have left and they are very slow to respond even for simple things, like when I ask how many hours I have left. They also recently changed their director for my center thus how certain policies work, and I was not given any notification. Their policy for paying forces you to buy a certain number of hours for a large amount of money and then don't actually provide you with good tutors. I highly regret spending my money and time on this center and do not suggest it.

We dropped about $10,000 on this center. My daughter was prepping for the ACT on Simon's suggestion. We joined in July of 2017. I explained to Simon that my daughter does great but needs a lot of time to prep which is why we joined in July for a Spring 2018 exam. Simon convinced us that he had worked with hundreds of students and knew exactly what to do. He wanted to focus on school work first stating there was plenty of time for test prep. This went on through November with me checking in about when we were going to start on the SAT prep. He kept saying we had time. I kept pushing for test prep. Come January my daughter is no where ready. This is $10,000 later. I called for a meeting with Christine Carmody, the manager who oversees most of the centers in the SF Bay Area. She basically said that with my daughter attending only 4 hours a week there was no way she was going to be ready for the ACT. Well if that is true how is it that we start in July, knowing that 4 hours were not going to be enough AND no test prep work was done because Simon thinks there was plenty of time. We were not there for tutoring help for homework. We were there for ACT prep. I feel like we have been swindled out of $10,000 with no results. The worst experience of our life! And still marketing that emails don't stop coming. At this point, I'm on the verge of hiring a lawyer and suing for harassment, false advertising and basically being conned out of $10,000. Worse staff of any center we have ever worked with. Of course the money is no refundable. If I thought anything would come of it, I'd call Jim Narangajavana their VP and demand a complete refund. Of course that won't work. I've just added to their $100 million in revenue a year. Don't make my mistake. Keep your money. There are very good tutors in the Bay Area. These guys are not one of them!

Force you to buy blocks - then appropriately skilled tutors are not available. Tutoring sessions when help do not group similar skillsets together.
