The $1 IQ test that quietly signs you up for $39.99/month
One day in July I paid $1 to see my IQ test result. That is all I wanted, and that is all I thought I was buying. The receipt Brainsmate emailed me says exactly that. Under "Order Summary" there is one line: Price, 1 USD. No renewal date. No monthly amount. No cancellation instructions. Nothing anywhere in that email indicating I had just started a recurring plan. What the receipt does not mention is that the same $1 checkout, in fine print, also enrolled me in a $39.99 monthly subscription. No separate confirmation, no welcome email, no reminder before the first billing date. A month later my credit card company notified me of a $39.99 charge from Brainsmate. The warning came from my bank, not from the company that charged me. Compare those two things: a receipt that says 1 USD, and a card statement that says $39.99. That gap is the entire business model. If you have used this site, check your statements. I will not be back, and I am telling everyone I know to avoid it. * Check the 1-star reviews on TrustPilot and notice how many of us are saying the same thing -- we feel scammed. Until this company changes its sneaky practices, people will keep complaining. They can try to hide our bad reviews with "good (but invited)" reviews, but it's not going to work. Bad business practices will always surface because people like us don't like being scammed.
