Brainscape - Smarter FlashcardsReviews of brainscape.com

Brainscape has been a blessing for my language learning experience. Not only are their flashcards a great way to learn vocabulary but they also allow you to create your own decks. I've found this to be invaluable -- I'm able to focus on the words, grammar rules, and phrases that are giving me trouble by creating cards specific to those sore spots. Whenever I've contacted their customer service the response has been prompt and on-point. The app is easy to use, and also, very cool - has a desktop component. Every update makes the experience even better. I've recommended Brainscape to anyone who tells me they want to learn a language. You can do it in 10 minutes a day and see your competency increase dramatically over time. There are no excuses to put off studying when you have Brainscape!

I couldn't have passed the WSET Level 3 exam, which has a low pass rate, without Brainscape. I downloaded decks of flashcards created by another user, then supplemented them with cards that I made myself. The app made this process very easy. I studied / quizzed myself using the Brainscape cards whenever I had spare time, such as when waiting in line or riding the subway. The app has you score how well you know each card, and repeats cards that you score lower more frequently in your study rotation so that you're spending the most time on areas you're weaker in; though it also rotates in questions that you scored as knowing well, so that you don't forget that information. And the act of creating cards is a great way of learning information in the first place. I suppose all those wine tastings helped, too. :) I was thrilled to pass the exam on my first attempt! Since then, I periodically "study" the cards for fun or in preparation for a trip to a wine region so that I retain as much knowledge as possible.

I started a new job in the medical device industry as a Therapy Consultant for Deep Brain Stimulation. Even though I had an extensive background in Neuromodulation, this job was extremely challenging because the brain and Movement Disorders were very new to me. I found myself overwhelmed with learning everything and getting myself prepared to go into the Operating Room with my Neurosurgeons. I was told about Brainscape as a way to organize and facilitate my studying and I was very intrigued. After exploring all of the ways Brainscape could help me, I signed myself up. I was able to categorize all of the material I had to learn into buckets such as disease state, medication management, Neuroanatomy and competitive landscape. This made it easy for me to access the material based on what I needed to focus on during that particular time. The flash cards held a lot of information and the self checks kept me going, by reinforcing everything I knew and laying out what I kept needing to review. I found myself accessing the cards long after training was over, just because it stored so much information and was a good reference tool for me. The best part about Brainscape is how easy it is to pull up the cards, no matter where you are. I could be waiting in line at the store, or in a doctors office, and it was seamless to access and start reviewing the material. Now that some time has passed, my organization has asked me to facilitate Initial DBS Training for all new hires that enter the company. I have recommended Brainscape to my peers because with the abundance of information we have to learn, this really is the only efficient way to learn. I loved using Brainscape and would highly recommend it to anyone studying for anything or trying to reach a certain academic goal.

Brainscape is a very user-friendly, intuitive app that was an absolute lifesaver for me while studying for my WSET wine exam. I was able to search existing flash cards & easily add my own questions. The confidence rating feature is really helpful in reinforcing concepts that I was having a harder time learning. I have tried it for other subjects as well & highly recommend for anyone looking to learn something new.

Liked: lovely user interface simple to add basic questions very quick and convenient to squeeze in a little refresher of 10 cards, the app makes it very potable Dislike I don't have the same confidence in this app as I do with Anki - there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive spaced-repitition algorithm, and I find myself tiring of the same repeated cards before I can move on. There are very limited adjustments that can be made on the free version, and no pictures can be added for labelling

I started using Brainscape when the app was fairly new… (some years ago… im thinking around 2015-16). Back then, it was a one time purchase of $19… no renewals. I went back to use the app again in 2020. That’s when I learned that I couldn’t even use THE BASICS on the app. Even AFTER paying for it initially. So what they do now is, add tiny extras to the overall function of the app while claiming better performance or something else new BUT additional fees are REQUIRED. I wrote them & they replied. They still NEVER ADDRESSED my initial question. WHY SHOULD I PAY BRAINSCAPE “MORE” MONEY… when they swindled money from me once before & I couldn’t use even the basic app! So I actually wasted $19. It’s a great app concept however, the company practices ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. They did NOT HIDE that they changed their RULES & FEES, at any moment & at their discretion. You may wake up one day to find they have added something new & there may be additional charges to CONTINUE to use the app you’ve already paid for (even the BASICS on the app). So you guys no disrespect, but It’s an endless money pit. The app Brainscape will DEFINITELY teach you …how to get cheated using cleaver indirect add ons, updates and policy changes. Once they get you to pay… it’s hard to stop! To be fair… I LOVED the app, however not enough to continue to be swindled by the company!!! Honest Truth…

One star is too much! I have recently become a paying customer to this made up fake platform. As I was studying one day the layout of the cards got completely damaged my content went pear shaped and I am currently continuing to waste my time re-organising my content. Before their stupid update, my cards were great visually into a rectangular shape but now it is all squashed into a square. Where I had left space between paragraphs and listed bullet points everything is now a huge block of text. I contacted their customer service Joysa C, told me to clear my browser cache and try switching browsers. That is what I did, in the end I ran out of browsers to try and even when I did clear each and everyone of the cache, it was the same story, she then told me to reduce my page size from 100% (which is the ideal reading font and everything was so much more comfortable) to about 60%/70%. I did try that today however it did feel like I had to put a lot more effort into concentrating. All she did was apologize and wasn't able to say anything reassuring. Mind you, their app is doing pretty bad as well, plenty of unhappy customers there as well. When I say take your money and run, I really mean it.
