A long but honest review
A long but honest review. I was an investor in the Kickstarter Nest Duo project back in 2023. I've invested in a fair few Kickstarters, and this was probably the worst. Ran over 6 months late, and the claims that before the products were sent out the Nest Duo would be going under rigourous testing so we would receive the perfect product. Given that extra 6 months for the product creation this was definitely not true. The most basic of basic apps, paint all peeled off within two months, no ability to turn the interior light off, no night vision it claimed to have, constant WiFi drops, no ability to reconnect to WiFi without going into the box, solar panel not working, the list really was endless. Anyone who invested via Kickstarter were guinea pigs, there was little to no testing before we received them. Customer service were always quick to respond, level one were polite, but next to useless, they just read the troubleshooting guide back to you, great if you haven't been through the troubleshooting guide yourself, but frustrating if you have. When they stepped you up the the tech team, then problems started to be solved, and usually were. Many people actually asked for refunds for the product as getting them to work was frustrating. I didn't though, I had faith that over time and updates they would get this right........ Eventually. That's the bad side of the review. Roll on 18 months and a box that really does look worse for wear (customers are now told to treat the box with some kind of weather friendly protection, there must be some reason the boxes aren't treated before sending out). A couple of weeks ago the camera system had totally given up, would no longer connect at all, dead so I called Customer service. Again ,level one, polite, professional but again, asking me to go through everything I've been through again. I was then stepped up to the tech team where things started to happen. Credit to them they have sent me out a brand new MKII Birdfy Nest Duo as the old one was still in warranty. What a difference. This is how the Kickstarter should've been sent out. The rigourous testing that was claimed in the original Kickstarter was done by all of the investors. There is now true night vision (when questioned on the original they claimed the fact it had an LED light you could switch on in the middle of the night was night vision). The fact you don't have to open the box to do all of the resetting to get the WiFi back in is a huge upgrade, and how the original was ever allowed to be released having to do this just shows that no thought was put into it. It should've been this from the beginning. We are now told to treat the boxes to withstand the weather which is excellent too. This was the first thing I did. So in short, I was patient with the project when others gave up, and feel the Nest Duo MK II has eventually become a good product,a product that should have been released like this in the first place if rigourous testing and a bit of thought was put into it. Unfortunately this was not the case. Customer service have always been fantastic, extremely quick to reply, as I've said, level one can be frustrating, but I understand some people are not as tech savvy as others, so we have to go through that. The tech team above these were always great, and genuinely listened and made note of the problems. I would definitely recommend the Nest 2 duo today. I definitely wouldn't have done 18 months ago, and I would definitely recommend that if Netvue/Birdfy did another Kickstarter to certainly take a different approach. In the meantime I've also purchased a feeder, which works flawlessly, so I've obviously not been put off but the company. Sorry about the length of the review.....
