A technician arrived to service the pilot light in my fireplace. After disassembling the unit, he asked to see where the gas line entered the house. I took him outside and suggested he check the propane tank, as it had just been filled and might have been turned off. He dismissed the suggestion, insisting it had no relevance to the pilot light. He then looked at my irrigation lines—mistaking them for the gas line—and stated that everything appeared fine. Once back inside, he informed me that the entire pilot light assembly needed to be replaced because the lines were “corroded, rusted, and crumbling.” He quoted a total cost of $1,300, plus an additional $400 for a remote control that I neither have nor want. He was extremely insistent about the remote and pressed me for a 30% deposit for materials before leaving. I paid only the $69 service fee plus tax. I subsequently had another company inspect the fireplace. They confirmed there was no corrosion, rust, or deterioration of any kind. The issue was simply that the gas tank had been turned off. The new technician showed me how to turn it on and off, and once the gas was turned on, the pilot light functioned properly. Additionally, the technician from BHO Chimney Sweep arrived with another individual who sat in my living room scrolling on his phone while people waited for them in their vehicle. The entire experience was unprofessional and uncomfortable. I contacted BHO to request a refund, as their technician provided false information and, in my opinion, significantly misquoted me for unnecessary work. I would not recommend this company under any circumstances.
