If your employer is willing to pony up, this is a great place to get your lessons from. Or if you've never learned another language before. Your first new language will always require a lot more guidance than subsequent ones, and Berlitz offers a very structured program. This was my fifth language. I was fortunate to test into level 5 (of 10) despite not really speaking the language at all (but being able to read a bit), and to have a wonderful instructor who I eventually convinced to work with me at a level we both understood to be well over my head. My instructor was professional and friendly in a healthy balance, and responsive to my requests and interests. This is to say, if you're a highly experienced language learner, a course of private lessons from Berlitz can be a good option, provided that you're able to test in at a level a bit above your head, and provided you're not the one paying the bill. There were some technical difficulties, due to everything going online for the pandemic. Not a dealbreaker though.

overall the best experience with the instructors first and foremost and the learnings on the web site is great. I like being able to go to any lesson over and over again to practice. The only improvement would be to provide the answer. Sometimes the web site doesn't provide the answer if someone is struggling to get the right words or translations.

I enjoyed my time learning Turkish with Berlitz. The program I took was 800 hours long and in that time I was able to pass a test at IRL level 2 for both reading and speaking. The program did what it was designed to do (get me to IRL level 2 Turkish in reading and speaking). With that said, there are still some things that I believe can be improved upon. First let me say that two of my teachers in particular (Pelin Eralp and Feride Saray) were outstanding. Both of these instructors pushed me to be better and consistently worked on their own lessons tailored to my level/learning style. Even going as far as to make their own lessons specifically for things I had difficulties with. I cannot thank either of them enough as they both were extremely patient with me. They both were enthusiastic and wanted me to be successful. Other instructors I had were also good, however they tended to completely stick to the provided material (a/k/a the text books and workbooks). I want to be very clear that the grammar and sentence exercises in these books were VERY valuable and were needed. However, once we began the 3rd and 4th books, the reading passages and listening exercises in those books were pretty useless as in I couldn’t understand most of them. Many of these passages dealt with philosophical and intellectual subjects also that would more suitable for a very advanced speaking course as opposed to what I was attempting to learn. It was weird because the grammar and sentence exercises in these books seemed to stay at my level but the reading passages and listening exercises seemed to go up to very advanced levels. The instructors also acknowledged this. My biggest issue with this is that some of the instructors still felt the need to “power through” or stick to the book for these readings and listenings. I am not exaggerating in saying at times we would spend 1.5-2 hours out of a 3 hour class reading some of these passages and translating very advanced words that I would be (in my opinion) unlikely to utilize in more basic / semi advanced dialogue (examples are phases like “seize opportunity,” “achieve success,” “victory of perseverance,” etc). I didn’t get much if anything out of this time and to be honest felt like the class time could have been spent much better in these instances simply having basic conversations. During these instances I was left frustrated and felt at times like I wasn’t learning anything. I don’t blame the instructors because while some felt it was ok to tailor the lessons to me and not waste time on these passages, I feel others felt (based on their interpretation of their instructions from Berlitz) every inch of the book had to be covered. Again with grammar and sentence exercises I had no issues. It was the reading passages and listening exercises in the B1 and B2 Turkish books that were overly difficult. My suggestion would be to explain to future instructors that while all grammar should be covered, overly difficult readings and listening exercises with overly advanced words can be skipped and supplemented with something that will help the student learn better. That was my biggest issue but the instructors and course overall was great and I am grateful for their patience and everything I learned from it.

The quality depends on teachers. The part of teachers was miscellany.

I loved the Berlitz method! I’m an 100% satisfied with my experience and also my Teacher (Marcella) Unfortunately it’s not a good time (financially) to continue with the second level. But it’s something I would like to do in the near future.

The quality of education is superb. The instructors are also very professional and friendly. I was able to learn an immense amount of French in 5 weeks

Now with a consistent person to talk to about anything, it makes it a lot easier to navigate the whole back end of the process. Thanks!
