This review is about ANTHEM BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD; What can a person do in 10 weeks? Add about 10 hours and one can sail around the world twice or walk from New York to San Francisco and back again. It's also the amount of time it takes for a mega-insurance company like Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to post a measly $50 credit to a customer's OTC card. This credit's a reward for getting a home visit / routine medical checkup from a subsidiary company called Matrix. This extra money was very much needed in light of the fact the newly installed oligarchs in DC needlessly cut Medicare benefits. I went from having $135 in my monthly OTC account to $50. With the OTC card, I paid utilities and/or internet fees. The decrease in benefits really hurts. So now I wait. I took the Matrix home visit on March 22nd and now, 8 weeks later, still no credit on my OTC. The company tells me it takes 10 weeks to post a credit - a period of time that defies logic and cannot be justified in any way. I'm sure both Matrix and the visiting nurse got paid for the home visit. Somehow I count less - this is the worst customer service. And I am done with the home visits. They are not worth the aggravation.

Extra hidden fees were mailed to me months after a minor emergency visit. The total bill was low, but if they are willing to screw customers over on the little stuff, would bet any money that they will destroy you if you ever actually use them for an emergency.

They do answer the phone when called. They do provide service. They dropped the call twice. They set a PCP 250 miles from my home address who isn't a PCP and doesn't take phone calls. They sent me a list of replacement PCPs, 3/4ths of which were incorrect listings. They were not upfront and thoughtful telling me prices. I suspect that the operator saw something in my information and made a moral judgement about me because they called 'Sir' 4-5 after being told to stop after every time. This strikes me as rampant gender discrimination. It took 4 phone calls to get an appointment. I probably could have found a PCP that takes BCBS insurance faster by driving to every doctor's office in town and asking.

I am unable to get timely care because providers cannot reach them to verify coverage. BCBS coverage is worse enough but when a doctor, lab or dentist office is not being able to reach them that's even worse. That delays my care. That also delays my ability to efficiently shop for services, most of which I'm paying for.

I continue to near daily receive emails from anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield telling me that I need to contact my doctor and to get healthy and take care of myself use my insurance so that I could live a better life then I go to my doctor and my doctor says oh yes well we need to do this and she writes me a prescription And then anthem denies the prescription and then she wrote a different prescription for another problem and they deny that prescription and they have denied four prescriptions that my doctor felt I needed To get healthy and when I call them, they say that their medical director is smarter than my doctor without even ever looking at me or talking to me or meeting me so he denies my medication because he’s a better doctor than my doctor and yet he’s sitting behind the desk, not talking to anybody. At that point they tell me I can appeal within 10 days of the denial. Well, let’s go 10 days. It takes two days at least for the cover letter to leave their facility and takes another five days to be delivered that leaves three days in that three days I have to take the letter to my doctor. She has to find time to see me if luckily enough I get to see her And then she has to download a plethora of forms and fill them out and mail them back to anthem at the end of those three days so the system is set up to never help you in the end. The people that really need medication will not get them through anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield do not use this company. You will not get the proper care that you are hoping for. Period. When I called up to ask what was going on, they directly told me their medical director makes decisions that my doctor can’t so apparently my certified doctor doesn’t know what she’s talking about but their pencil pusher that covers all the bills knows everything.
