They're just another scam
I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but after taking time to reflect on my experience, I believe other authors deserve to hear it before investing their money. My experience with Collins Ghostwriters cost me thousands of dollars and left me deeply disappointed. I initially paid approximately $7,500 for the writing of my book. The process was difficult from the beginning. On two separate occasions, the outlines they produced were so far from what I wanted that they had to be redone before we could move forward. After the book was completed, I was offered an advertising package. I was told it normally cost around $10,000 but was being offered to me for approximately $5,000 as a special promotion. Based on what was presented, I expected a significant marketing effort and increased exposure for my book. I never saw a level of sales that came close to justifying that investment, and I was never provided with reports or documentation showing exactly what marketing had been performed. Throughout the process, I repeatedly found myself asking for evidence that the services I had paid for were actually being carried out. I was never given the level of transparency I expected after investing that amount of money. One incident permanently damaged my trust. I received a phone call telling me that my book had been selected as one of the top 15 out of 40 books by what I understood to be an independent entity. Later, I learned that the "entity" making that selection was Collins Ghostwriters themselves. I felt misled because the recognition had been presented as though it came from an outside organization. Another concern involved royalties. Although my book was supposedly being marketed and sold through multiple outlets, no one ever asked where royalty payments should be sent. That left me wondering how royalties would be handled if sales were taking place. While researching online, I found my book listed for sale on an overseas website that I had never been told about. Discovering my book being sold through channels I knew nothing about only added to my concerns. I was also contacted with an offer to have my book added to the Library of Congress for approximately $1,100. After doing my own research, I learned that authors can often handle copyright registration and related publishing steps themselves for far less money. I wish I had known that before paying for additional services. One final thing that gave me pause was the company's address. When I entered the address I had been given into Google Earth, it appeared to be an empty lot. I don't know the reason for that, but it raised additional concerns for me. This review reflects my personal experience. I encourage anyone considering Collins Ghostwriters to ask detailed questions, request written documentation describing exactly what services will be performed, ask for measurable reports showing what work has been completed, and research every additional service before paying for it. I sincerely hope other authors have a better experience than I did. Unfortunately, mine left me feeling that I had invested a great deal of money with very little transparency and very little to show for it.
