Absolute WORST experience I ever had with any company ever I ordered a Mexican Red Knee Tarantula from them, and when she had finally arrived the animal was dead and the packaging was VERY poor, I emailed them letting them know that the animal had died and if they could either issue me a refund or send me another spider like I had, they NEVER apologized for the animal dying, they acted like they didn’t care about it at all, they said “No company will issue you a refund” customer service was horrible, they can’t deliver a spider alive and then they blame ME for it, so I filed a dispute on my debit card to get my money back and they went out of their way to be a-holes and have it thrown out by their bank so I then have $130 missing from my account one day and I couldn’t afford to buy groceries, every person I dealt with over email was very rude and didn’t care that an animal had died over their carelessness, so now I have a dead spider and I’m out of $130, stealing money from me is one thing, but having an animal die and not caring about her at all is what sent me over the edge, I will NEVER even think of buying from these “people” ever again and I strongly advise you to take your business elsewhere, there’s literally hundreds of websites to order reptiles and tarantulas from and this one ain’t it chief, oh and did I mention that they threatened to press harassment charges on me because I called them out on their bs? REALLY professional customer care

I would give zero stars if I could. I have been in a battle for over a month with these dishonorable thieves. I paid $70+ for 50 Giant Vietnamese Walking Stick Insects. This was for an educational course in parthenogenesis I am teaching as an entomology specialist. They were not sent out for over a week. The company claimed it was an issue on my end with the order but after sending screenshots of proof that everything has gone through on my end it was magically fixed with no changes. I believe they did not have the insect I ordered in hand and caused this delay. This was proven when the insects all arrived as first instars. (New hatches within 3days) 10 were dead upon arrival with the 11th squished in the lid. I took an unboxing video. I had only received 36 of the 50 as counted on video. I immediately reached out to the company within minutes of opening the box wondering where the rest of the shipment was and to inform of the dead. By the 4th day I had 25 dead insects, only 24 could be photographed since the insect squished in the lid disintegrated. I reached out again attaching photos and timestamps. The company offered me a discount on a replacement of 10. They wanted me to pay more to replace only 10.... after they continued to ignore my emails, photos and video I reported to the Better Business Bureau. They continue to argue with nothing on their side. They are ignoring the missing insects from the shipment entirely. I hope Backwater Reptiles Burns down. They deserve to be destroyed. Dishonorable thieves. Reading other reviews I wish I had learned this before they ever STOLE my money. I will be filing against them. These employees I have interacted with do not deserve air and are scourge of society. How frustrating that they are scamming so many people. They deserve to be shut down. Anyone wishing to see the unboxing video or email chains between the company regarding this matter please reach out to me. I am posting them everywhere for everyone to read for themselves and see how the company tries to gaslight.

My husband ordered four garter snakes for me, for my birthday. When the UPS man arrived, I immediately opened the box. Three snakes were dead and the other didn't make it through the night. I felt so sorry for the snakes and will never order from Backwater again.

Ordered a Russian Tortoise for my daughter in the end of July received it from the shipping company. Wrapped in a box then Wrapped in a strawberry container inside the box. I Knew it wasn't going to be a good experience. So the tortoise started experiencing runny eyes and wouldn't eat so we take her to the vet.$229 dollars later with antibiotics he says the tortoise came sick if we didn't bring her in she probably would have died within a week or so. So that's my experience with Backwater Reptiles. Not a very good one. I would avoid them at all costs. Only about the money. Sent an email they sent a automated response back about the 7 day guarantee only policy.

I ordered a chameleon and it was DEAD! no remorse or help from them. Worst customer service EVER! Never would I ever imagine a company to neglect the well being of any creature! My son was devastated! I suggest no one buy from them

Worst experience ever with Backwater Reptiles! I would give it 0 stars if possible. My chameleon was shipped from Fl to my home in GA, as hot as temps get, and they DID NOT put a cool pack in! Of course he arrived DOA!!! The only resolution they would give me was to pay $29.99 to have another shipped to me and said no refund bc temps were in the 90s. If he arrived dead with a cool pack, I would have said well that was the chance we took. But to ship without a cool pack, they gave him no shot at living!!! The sad part was opening the box in front of my 6 year old son to find our new addition to the family, DEAD!

I ordered 2 spiderlings a cobalt blue and a Antilles. They both came in small containers. My wife and I opened over a white sheet and a big tubberwear bowl knowing how small the spiderling could be. We spent some time looking for it with lights and carefully with the tones and found nothing. We messaged and I explained and it seemed like they didn't care or was out fault. Im an honest writing man and work hard for what I want. No need to lie about a spider missing. Just upset that they didn't care

DOA blackworms. $106 of blackworms dead on arrival, packaged terribly in a single bag with little water, causing them all to suffocate. The weather in my area was below 90 as per their policy, but they blamed the weather and told me I could have a "discounted replacement". Not wasting any more of my money, thanks.
