I ordered one baby garter sake, and he arrived safely, although seemed to be very stressed. I was too after reading the reviews and understandably worried about my new pet. My worries were confirmed when about a week after i got him he died. My best guess is mites but it couldve been something else, and judging by the reviews on this website, im guessing my suspicion has ground to take root. When I went about getting a refund, I was told by customer service that I had to dig him out of my garden where I buried him and place him on the box that I recieved him in. That took so much out of me, and I'm not even being refunded the 44 dollar shipping. (on the package, it said the cost was 20 dollars and I have no clue where the other 24 dollars is going) Please dont buy from backwater reptiles. go somewhere like emerald scales or snake discovery, or find a local breeder near you.

The only positive side was the reptile I ordered arrived quickly and alive. It was starved and malnourished, did not look like it was in the best care. Its doing better now that is has food and water.

Hello i have ordered 4 times from backwater reptiles 3 of those times every thing came ALIVE and well lol. I recently ordered a blue tounge skink from them last week. It got here barely alive,it was obvious that it was wild caught the poor guy was so skinny you could see his bones. And to top it off it wasnt even the subspecies i had ordered!! I ordered a irian jaya bts and I recieved a halmahera bts when its not even advertised on there website. Probably wont be ordering from them again.

My wife ordered me a juvie blue iguana just before July 1, got it with mites and worms. Thank God we didn't order nothing else..

I ordered a Juvenile Russian Tortoise, and the tortoise was quite old and beat up (Scratches and dents in the shell, and little holes), evidently wild caught. I just foolishly guessed the tortoise would be captive bred, but I was wrong. Shipping was a tiny box with foam lining and a plastic box, the same one you get berries in at the store. The tortoise was not fasted prior, and there was feces smeared everywhere. The container was so small that the tortoise was immobilized the whole time. I would maybe recommend them for more hardy and adaptable species, as the prices were pretty good, but fragile or less adaptable species would not be recommended.

I ordered a CB hatchling Clubtail Iguana and they sent me a field collected juvenile. They admitted this and only after growing back and forth, and trying to tell me O did not get the wrong animal since it was the same species. They did offer me a full refund if I sent the animal back, but since it was already skinny and stressed, I chose not to.

I placed a number of orders for live crickets with this company in the last six months, and also ordered one live anole. Initially, I had a positive experience. However, about a month ago, I ordered 500 crickets. What I received was maybe half that number. There were only one or two dead in the box, so they did not die in transit. I didn’t say anything, and ordered again when necessary. This time the order of 500 only contained about 50 crickets. Again, there were not enough dead in the container to account for the difference. I contacted customer service, and was informed that they would not help me because I had not contacted them within three hours of the delivery of the crickets. So, three issues. 1. The three hour policy is ridiculous. I understand if we’re talking about the arrival of a dead lizard worth hundreds of dollars. This is a box of crickets, Backwater. Show some flexibility. 2. Customer service is pretty snarky, and would at times just ignore my emails, apparently hoping I’d give up and leave them alone. They also repeatedly got my name wrong. Not very professional. 3. Learn to count. I understand that crickets aren’t individually counted, but when I order a supply that should last a month, and only get three days worth, you’ve got a quality control issue.

I ordered two ambilobe panther chameleons just a week ago and it was a first time buying through backwater reptiles. I paid 500$ for a female and male for future breeding projects/pets and they came in poor conditions. The male either had something in his eye or had an eye infection. The female looks like she has bruiseing on the end of her tail as if some yanked her from her perch as the end of her tail was in mesh or something of the sort. Plus both seemed to have kinda sunken eyes but not as bad as full blown dehydration that ive seen from pictures. I nursed them back to health. Thank god. Backwater reptiles you guys suck. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. If you get a hurt/potentially sick animal and do not know what your doing then you risk losing money and getting a broken heart for these animals. I hope someone shuts them down. I will post photos if necessary.
