We ordered leaf insects, and the trouble began with shipping. They claimed the insects would arrive on Wednesday. Backwater reptiles was extremely condescending with how they "reminded us" us about their shipping schedule. So, we waited all day (the only day we have off) and they never showed. They arrived the next day, but since we were at work, the insects had to be held at the facility. They were stuck in a dark, dry box for FIVE days. That leads to the next problem. Leaf insects need humidity to molt properly. There was no humidity in the shipping container. The two meager oak leaves dried to a crisp by the time I finally got to open it. One of the insects went into a molt due to shipping stress. The molt ripped off one of its forelegs, and sadly, it did not survive. So, now we're down to two leaf bugs. For all the reviews saying that people got more insects or whatever, I would assume those are fluff. The combination of poor shipping procedures, rude customer service, and lack of consideration for animal life makes this company a resounding NOPE for any future business dealings.

The worst company ever. There is a problem with their site which caused confusion about what I ordered. I took a video of the glitch on the site to show them why I thought a mistake was made only to get this reply. We also told them one of the snakes came with mites they dismissed it as if I was lying. "Please stop spamming our inbox with your rambling emails. You ordered a Normal from us therefore received a normal. There is nothing further to discuss and we do not open random files from strangers.  Thank you, Backwater Reptiles, Inc.

Should be called sh*twater reptiles. Absolutely terrible company. DO NOT BUY YOUR REPTILES FROM HERE. Have the common sense of a bag of trash

I order reptiles alllll the time from websites but this is the first time I will never order from this company. Overall huge liars and do not have their crap together. Should not be in business.

Never buy from this company! They are completely unethical. I bought a Blue iguana for my son for approximately $145 the Iguana arrived sick full of tumors all over it’s body the iguana is not active dosent eat and is completely unhealthy. When I contacted the customer support they were completely rude and disregarded the fact that the iguana. Was a gift for my son, instead they claim that the iguana wasn’t sick and had left over shed. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY unless you want a sickly pet! It’s evident that they don’t take care of their animals.

Bought a pixie frog over a week ago. It arrived injured with part of it's foot ripped off. Contacted Backwater and they dismissed me, saying they've never heard of it and would be in touch. Did I mention this was over a week ago . . . still no contact, and now their website directs me to a pharmaceutical company.

My son had saved all summer to purchase a tarantula as a pet from Backwater reptiles. It arrived 8 hours later than it should have and was dead on arrival. Backwater Reptiles did nothing for a refund. Had the package arrived on time it would have been below 90° outside. But because it arrived later in the day the temperature had risen above 90° and the tarantula died. My son was devastated. This company has zero accountability. I wouldn't trust them with anything.

Sent us a sick uromastyx. It lived for a couple weeks before it died. Explained it arrived sick it never had energy from day 1 etc. They offered us 20 bucks off a new one. What a joke. Buy local people.
