Was a bad experience from day one. Unprofessional, bad communication, and felt as though I was speaking to robots. Something didn’t feel right from day one.
When I asked them for a refund and began to terminate the relationship my contact point actually sent me an email asking for a second chance while relating the email to events in my book and etc. One big mistake, the book she was referencing in the email was NOT even my book. Completely confirmed my reservations about this company as a whole. It is like being shoved into an assembly line and person touch is non existent. BEWARE…. You have been warned.
I switched to another publisher and the difference was palatable. Look elsewhere.

We’re disappointed to read this review, particularly because it presents a very one-sided account of what occurred. While we fully respect the client’s decision to discontinue our services, we do not believe the review fairly represents the work, communication, and support provided throughout the engagement.
The reference to the wrong book in one follow-up email was an unfortunate administrative error, and we acknowledge that it should not have happened. However, one such mistake does not reasonably support the broader claims that our company is “unprofessional,” that clients are treated like an “assembly line,” or that there is no personal involvement. Our records show that our team communicated with the client, worked on the requested publishing services, and made a genuine effort to address their concerns when they requested to terminate the relationship. The request for a “second chance” was made precisely because we wanted to resolve the concerns and retain the client—not because we were unwilling to provide personal support.
We also find the statement “BEWARE” particularly unfair when presented without the full context of the engagement. We respect that the client ultimately chose another publisher, but that personal decision should not be presented as evidence that our company failed to provide legitimate publishing services. We welcome prospective clients to review our broader customer feedback and make their own informed assessment.
We wish the client success with their book and future publishing journey. At the same time, we stand behind the professionalism and efforts of our team and remain committed to improving wherever genuine shortcomings are identified.

Unreliable and Poor Work Quality
While completing work for a non-profit organization Aurora Writers missed deadlines, provided poor work quality and ultimately provided an unusable product. I would strongly recommend looking into other editing companies as their staff was rude and dismissive during the process.
When a refund was requested for the services that were not rendered, they failed to provide it.
Response from Aurora WritersOct 7, 2026
We respectfully disagree with the allegations in your review, as they do not reflect the documented history of your project.
You received the agreed services and deliverables, and the timeline for the final printed copies was affected by the multiple additional editing and formatting revisions you requested. These revisions were accommodated at no additional cost, as your package included multiple rounds of revisions. The work was delivered according to the manuscript, formatting, and specifications approved by you.
We also strongly disagree with the characterization of our team as “rude and dismissive.” Our team remained available throughout the project and worked through your requested revisions and approvals. Likewise, the statement that the services were “not rendered” is inaccurate, as the project records document the work completed and deliverables provided.
We respect that you were ultimately dissatisfied with the experience, but we cannot agree with allegations that do not align with the documented project history. We stand by the work delivered and the professional efforts made by our team throughout your project.

Catalogue of issues and potential theft of funds from a not for profit
We are a not for profit organisation and paid in advance for their editorial services and the printing of 50 hard copies of a practitioners guide book.
We ultimately received one out of the three proof copies they said they had sent (they lied about the date sent, as the couriers receipt showed) and the price of the postage had to eventually be paid for by us, then it arrived to the wrong address, with the wrong name on the address.
They made so many errors in their handling of our project and in their management of the process, the book was appalling quality, they introduced editing errors and formatting issues.
Eventually we told them we wanted to terminate the contract and receive a refund. After a lot of pushback, they eventually agreed to this.
To date, they have not refunded any of the agreed amount.
This has been 6 months now and they have cited issues with the IRS to cash flow as reasons for not paying, they have missed 3 deadlines and have now ceased to return calls.

We’re sorry that you were dissatisfied with your experience, but we would like to clarify several points in your review for the benefit of anyone reading it.
Regarding the proof copies, three proof copies were sent to you, not one. Our standard process is to provide physical proofs after the digital manuscript has been reviewed and approved by the client. In your project, the proofs were sent following your approval of the digital manuscript so you could review the physical presentation before proceeding with the final 50-copy print run.
We also respectfully disagree with the suggestion that the project deadlines were missed without context. The final 50-copy printing timeline was affected by multiple additional editing and formatting revisions requested by you. Our package includes multiple rounds of revisions at no additional cost, and we accommodated those requests so the final manuscript and formatting could reflect your requirements before proceeding with production.
There were also no ongoing communication issues as suggested in the review. Our team remained available throughout the project and worked through the requested revisions and approvals. The project records, proof shipments, client approvals, and revision history provide important context that is not reflected in the review.
We respect your decision to share your experience, but we believe the documented history of the project presents a more complete picture. We remain committed to providing professional service and supporting our clients through the revision and publishing process.

Why don't they publish their prices on the website?
It took a threat to get them to disclose their pricing structure. I was also guaranteed store placement in Walmart, Costco, Target, and Barnes and Noble. Because I wouldn't share my IP address I was talked down to. Post your prices and services ON YOUR WEBSITE. Don't make us talk to someone that isn't even capable of telling the truth, just to find out how much it costs.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We would like to clarify a few points, as we do not believe this review accurately reflects how we communicate our services.
Our pricing is based on the specific publishing package and services selected, which can vary considerably depending on the manuscript, editing requirements, publishing services, print quantities, distribution, and marketing needs. For that reason, we provide customized pricing rather than presenting a single fixed price that may not apply to every author or project.
Regarding store placement, our team discusses distribution and bookstore-placement opportunities as part of the publishing process, but placement should not be understood as a guaranteed retail sale or guaranteed stocking by individual retailers. Any representation made to you should be understood in the context of the specific distribution service and its terms.
We also disagree with the characterization that our representative was “incapable of telling the truth.” Our team’s role is to understand an author’s project and explain the available services and associated costs. We regret that you felt dissatisfied with that interaction, but we stand by our commitment to provide authors with clear and accurate information

THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS!!!
THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I sent them over 100 pages of material and 4 months later they sent me back a 116 page "book" and said "The writer thought that was good enough". The very first words out of my mouth to them were, " I want a book over 300 pages." Its been 3 months since the "book" was complete & I asked for a refund I still have not received.
Response from Aurora WritersOct 7, 2026
We strongly disagree with the allegations made in this review, particularly the characterization of our company as “scammers.” This is a serious accusation that does not reflect the documented history of the project or the services provided.
Everything agreed upon for the project was delivered, and the manuscript was reviewed and approved by you at each stage and draft. The final manuscript was also delivered following the agreed development process. Our package includes multiple rounds of revisions at no additional cost, and we remain committed to accommodating revisions within the scope of the agreed services.
The statement that we simply delivered a book and refused to address your concerns is therefore not an accurate representation of the project. The manuscript went through the agreed stages, with your approval at each stage. No refund was committed or promised after the manuscript had been delivered and approved by you, and the project involved substantial writing and development work that had already been completed.
We understand that you may have subsequently changed your expectations regarding the manuscript, including the desired page count, but that does not make the services provided fraudulent or justify the allegation that our company is a scam. We stand by the work delivered, the documented approvals, and the professional efforts of our team throughout the project.

A Perfect Lesson in Why You Should Do Things Yourself
As a first time writer, I found the experience with Aurora Writers to be generally positive and a fantastic learning experience.
At least that's what I thought at first.
Here were some of the highlights.
Beta Reading. I especially wanted someone to read my story and provide feedback on a construction, character arcs, and plot. Entering into the arrangement, I made the assumption that was included, but was told I only paid for basic editing (more on this later). A beta reader would have helped me catch one chapter that had been mostly “misplaced” earlier in the process, rather than right at the end.
Editing. During the editing process, I learned that I had to go back over the edits carefully and ensure that the edits made sense. In one particular case, the editor changed the name of a character from Ione (capital “i”) to lone (lower case “L”). More than 90% of the edits were fine, but it was those few catches that made me stand up and take notice. Afterwards, I discovered A LOT of things that were missed and have had to do extensive reedits after the editor.
The cover art creation process was another challenge. While I am not an opponent against AI art, I understand the limitations of such tools as well. Despite giving many examples of dynamic poses that were more in line with my vision, I ended up with something that was “OK”. I come from an art background and know that when I am presented a finished product (not a sketch) as a first pass, AI is being utilized and the ability to modify the image will be extremely limited. An AI cover also brings a lot of "political baggage" with it right now and some people will avoid a book because they see AI art.
Formatting. This and editing were the primary things I was was paying for. I had no experience with this, but had to learn on my own, as the formatting I was given did not comply with the KDP layouts.
Publication came next. I don’t know what the usual process might be, but I was caught off-guard by the ask to provide my password to KDP, which is my Amazon account and contains my banking information and social security number. This was a giant red flag to me and I declined their offer, taking care of that process on my own.
Upsells. I get it. Aurora Writers is a business and need to make money. Upsells were expected, however, these got a bit extreme. At one point I was told, “the team thinks you have a very strong book here”; but, with no beta reader, I’m not sure what this was based on. It felt more like something that is said to everyone to butter them up for the next part. Which was when I was asked to pay for the printing costs for 1800 copies of my book to ship to various book stores around the world. This seemed extremely extravagant for a first time author that hasn't even had a Beta Reader read the book.
In the end, nearly everything they did for me required me to do it again and they ghosted me (and never sent the free copies of the book I was supposed to receive) after I refused to pay the printing cost for an exuberant number of books that I would likely never see on any shelves, nor receive a dime in return.

Thank you for sharing your detailed experience. While we respect that you had concerns about certain aspects of the process, we would like to clarify several points because your review also confirms that the majority of the services were delivered and that more than 90% of the editing was satisfactory.
The services included in your package were delivered, and revisions are a normal and expected part of professional editing, formatting, and publishing services. Our packages include revision opportunities so that clients can review the work and request corrections or adjustments. We always encourage authors to review their manuscript carefully and communicate any changes they would like our team to address.
Regarding the KDP account, we publish books under the author’s ownership and name. Any request for account access is solely for the purpose of completing the publishing process through the author’s own account, so that the author retains ownership and control of their book and publishing account. We understand your decision not to provide your credentials, and we respect that decision.
Our additional services and publishing options are also presented based on an author’s book, genre, and potential publishing requirements. These may include printing, distribution, marketing, and bookstore-related services. These are optional services—we never require a client to purchase an additional service, and we respect each author’s decision if they choose not to proceed.
We are therefore disappointed by the characterization that “nearly everything” had to be redone. The project services were delivered, and your review itself acknowledges that more than 90% of the editing was satisfactory. We also regret that you felt unsupported after declining additional services, as our intention is always to provide the services included in the package and respect each author’s individual decisions regarding optional offerings.
Finally, while we respect your right to leave an honest review, we feel that a one-star rating does not fairly represent the overall work delivered, particularly in light of your own acknowledgment that the experience was initially positive and that the vast majority of the editing was satisfactory.
We wish you continued success with your book and appreciate the opportunity to have been part of your publishing journey.
