Anytime Fitness Punishes Members for Its Own Billing Failures
Anytime Fitness has created a system in which corporate and the independently operated club can point at each other while the member continues to be charged and threatened with collections. I completed my one-year membership obligation and then asked to cancel or pause the membership. Instead of handling that request, Anytime Fitness continued billing me, attempted to charge an early-cancellation fee, and is now threatening to place the account in collections. I also still cannot access the Anytime Fitness app. Corporate told me the local club must resolve the problem. The local club told me it needs to speak with corporate. Neither side has accepted responsibility, yet the billing continues as though their internal confusion is somehow my responsibility. At this point, merely removing the early-cancellation fee is not sufficient. Anytime Fitness should remove all charges assessed after my original cancellation or pause request, stop any collection activity, close the account with a zero balance, and confirm the resolution in writing. Customers should not be financially penalized because Anytime Fitness and its franchise location cannot communicate or administer a membership properly.
