The American Massage Therapy Association is the largest non-profit, professional association serving massage therapists, massage students and massage schools. We are guided by a volunteer national Board of Directors who sets the course for the association. As a member-driven organization, we are constantly in conversation with our members through surveys, phone calls, emails and social media to understand the diverse needs of all of our members and their hopes for the profession. We advocate for the issues important to massage therapists across the country at the federal, state and local levels of government. We promote the health benefits of massage to the public, the health care community and other important groups. AMTA provides its members with the strongest benefits in the massage therapy profession and has been serving our community for over 75 years.

There needs to be more done to nationalize licensing. The idea that more states aren't reciprocal is ridiculous and it seems like amta is the hold up for getting this done

What I like, having insurance. Super easy to navigate. What I wish I could see more. I'd like to see AMTA advocate more for some things at the state level. I'd also like to see AMTA offer more hands on classes all over the place. I DONT like that AMTA has online classes worth SO LITTLE. If we're actually taking notes and paying attention to whats within the classes they should be worth more than 3.5 CEUs. The big events every year are SUPER expensive and require time off(lost income), travel, board, food. It's a lot, even for those of us who can write it off as a business expense. And if i pay for an ONLINE class... it should never expire. We arent JUST LMTs. We're employees/employers, parents, spouses. We work, take care of kids, pets, our chores. And being an LMT isnt our whole life (especially for parents) sometimes its hard getting around to the online classes. If we paid for it, we should own "the right" to take it at our own availability. After speaking with a LOT of LMTs, GOOD hands on classes within our areas is really lacking. The schools should be required to offer MEANINGFUL continuing education.

Thank you for sharing your feedback—we truly value your perspective. Advocacy is central to AMTA’s mission, and we actively support the profession at both the state and federal levels. To learn more, visit amtamassage.org/advocacy. We also recommend connecting with your AMTA state chapter, which often offers affordable, hands-on CE opportunities and a chance to engage with peers at local events.

Money is deducted annually. Some classes/ ceus’ are offered online but that’s it. No support against illegal establishments. States are not United in licensing & protecting the licenses and law abiders.

I recently renewed and it did not give me a full year for the renewal and the renewal price is a $30 a year increase.

Overall the services and education Provided are good However there are things that are very important to massage therapists all across the nation that your organization either completely refuses to acknowledge or won't speak on. #1 human trafficking and it's impact on legitimate massage businesses #2 the interstate compact These things matter to us every single day. And AMTA doesn't address either subject Also the quality of the educators and classes at the 2024 convention were awful.

We agree that these topics are greatly concerning to the profession and AMTA has taken an active role in addressing them over the years. Since the IMpact was first drafted, AMTA has actively reviewed its provisions, participated in discussions about its effect on the profession, and expressed our concerns. We aim to improve professional mobility while addressing the needs of massage therapists and not sacrificing public safety. Our stance is shaped by member feedback and the broader needs of the massage therapy community, advocating for improved mobility without unnecessary barriers. You can find AMTA’s current position on IMpact here - https://www.amtamassage.org/about/news/interstate-compact2/ AMTA acknowledges that human trafficking is a very serious and horrible epidemic worldwide. It takes many forms including labor, domestic servitude, and commercial sex trafficking. AMTA condemns all forms of human trafficking and advocates on the State and Federal levels on behalf of the industry. Please visit https://www.amtamassage.org/advocacy/state-local-priorities/ to see State legislation supported by the American Massage Therapy Association. AMTA recognizes there are many opportunities to work in support of law enforcement, regulatory boards, district attorneys, legislators, massage therapy schools and our own members. We feel it is important to leave the work of fighting human trafficking and related criminal activity to the appropriate law enforcement, criminal prosecution agencies and organizations that are properly trained and equipped to handle these cases. AMTA is an available resource to provide education to the public and officials on what professional massage therapists do, our educational standards, and how to properly identify a trained and legitimate massage therapist. In regard to your experience at the AMTA 2024 National Convention, we’re sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the educational sessions. Our attendees rated the courses at a 4.6/5, if you have specific concerns related to the education sessions please reach out directly to our Member Experience team.
