Total Incompetence
Bought a lake house that had an AmeriGas tank. I called and set up an account with the understanding that they would transfer into my name post closing. Didn't happen, instead they locked the gas tank and didn't notify me. I called their infamous customer service, waited 2 hours on the phone and they said there was a mix up. However, they promised me that someone will be out in 3 days to reopen the gas. Three days later, no one showed up and no messages from Amerigas. I called again and they said someone would get it resolved ASAP and it was an extremely high priority. After 2 more days, no one called me back. I was at the end of my rope - no gas for over a week, so no hot water, no gas range, etc. and no one is doing anything to resolve my problem. I decided to drive over to the local Amerigas office, which I found to be entirely closed for COVID. Nonetheless I decided to wait in their parking lot until a driver pulled up and I walked over to him. He was very nice and apologetic. The driver said Amerigas was a terrible organization that bought the local propane company and proceeded to fire staff and save money. All customer service was being run out of North Carolina and the staff their was largely incompetent. This driver agreed to help me out. He called another driver who was free and met me at my lake house. The second driver gave me the same story about how crappy Amerigas was to its employees and he apologized for the treatment by their rude customer service staff. He was able to get the gas turned on, checked the system and lit the pilot lights. He also suggested that I may want to consider buying the Amerigas tank and then go to MFA or one of the other propane competitors who had much better customer service. Unfortunately the rating guidelines don't allow me to rate this company a 0 or negative number. Certainly a 1 rating is way too high.
