Review: Deceptive Tactics: They claim proofreading wasn't included and returned my original Word file
I am writing this review with a heavy heart, but in love with the writing community, to warn other authors about the deceptive business practices of Amazon Publishing Assistants.
I paid $999 for professional proofing and typesetting of my book, Wonderfully Made: The Dynamics of God's Humanity. After receiving a substandard first proof, I requested a refund. Project Manager Louis Gray then sent me a "revised manuscript" for review.
Here is what happened:
They retroactively changed the contract terms: In their email, they claimed that "the package selected for this project did not include editing or proofreading services" and that spelling and grammar "were not part of the services contracted." This is deeply misleading. I paid $999 specifically for proofing and typesetting. To now claim these services weren't included is dishonest.
They returned my original, unedited Word document: The "revised manuscript" they sent was simply my original Microsoft Word file, no typesetting. No formatting. No professional PDF proof. Just my own document back to me.
I have published six books with three legitimate publishing houses. When a publisher properly vets a manuscript, they send a PDF rough draft with their watermark logo on the pages. This is the industry standard. Returning an author's original Word document and calling it "revised" is not professional publishing—it's deceptive.
Because of these dishonest tactics, I have formally terminated my contract. I am demanding my $999 refund and the immediate return and deletion of my manuscript.
I share this so fellow authors will be protected. If a company retroactively changes what services were included, and tries to pass off your original file as their finished work, they cannot be trusted with your life's work or your money. Please seek a legitimate, transparent publishing service that respects industry standards and treats authors with honesty and integrity.
Sincerely,

Run from these people
GREEN ARE LIKELY ALL FAKE RED IS THE TRUTH
(You'll notice nothing in-between)
No trading entity that incurred these RED REVIEWS would be likely to trade as those in green would want you to believe
This is totally honest - the emails tell the full tragic history of what happened over the last 12 months. It is a shocking indictment of a company you obviously need to stay away from. When you've read this - I'm sure you will!
I actually sent an email two weeks ago containing an entire 10,870 word document to the Company's Principal Ted Baker giving him the chance to redeem the business's credibility. It remains unanswered. Had he responded as I suggested he should, I would have withheld this "review" Herewith the year's very abbreviated email exchanges! I have obviously eliminated personal contact detail
And so I discover I CAN'T publish these emails - there's such limited space here. All I have is a few lines. Your loss!
Between June 2025 and October 2025 I submitted perfect manuscripts - double and triple checked. This was the third Edition of an existing reference work so they had the previous book to follow exactly - only they couldn't! Line slips, pages way out of alignment,
the index screwed. "Oh sorry, we'll fix it" they lied. The book was due to be published in September 2025 at the latest
A quote from one of my many emails between June and September:
"So, The first thing I notice when I open up your edit is that my 633 page book is now just 529 pages - so obviously the text is substantially compromised. So much so, that if you look in the index for the actor Yulin, Harris - it says page 523?
(which is correct) but that page is now the "Ws" of the index itself - he's actually recorded on YOUR page 437! Every entry will be wrong now. Wouldn't that be obvious? You yourself acknowledged this point and the need for absolute care not to move anything."
Proof after proof were uncompromising disasters. Note this:

Dear Noel,
Thank you for your detailed email and for clearly outlining the issues you've encountered. I genuinely appreciate your honesty and the time you've taken to provide such a thorough review it’s invaluable in ensuring we deliver the high standard your book deserves.
Please rest assured that everything you’ve outlined will be fully addressed. We will:
• Restore the manuscript to its original structure and pagination to ensure the integrity of the index is maintained.
• Adhere strictly to your instruction not to move or alter text from its original page, to preserve both content accuracy and index references.
• Correct formatting inconsistencies, including dropped lines and layout disruptions like those noted on pages 41, 43, and 526.
• Ensure proper placement and alignment of all index entries, verifying that all page numbers correspond accurately with the manuscript.
• Add alternating headers as originally specified, adjusting margins as necessary to accommodate them.
• Review all files thoroughly before returning them to you to ensure that all corrections have been implemented and no further discrepancies remain.
a month later they sent a "revised" proof

Susan....what are you people not understanding??
1. I have explained that you CANNOT alter the content of any page - it will invalidate the index! You HAVE completely changed the pages - The editor/whoever, has crammed my 633 pages into just 541 pages - just like you did before!
2. I see no evidence of any editing whatsoever - what has been changed?
3. The index (useless that it now is of course) is still totally misaligned every second page
4. I have mentioned several times - I want it to look exactly like the 2024 edition - it doesn't!
6. The Statistical profile is stuffed up all the way through it - bits of pages dribbling on to the next page, The final 'total' line is fully out of alignment also.
A month passed with no contact, they then sent a third proof - my response?

"I simply cannot believe this.....Again, quite obviously NO-ONE has looked through this - it is a disaster. Nothing has been checked at all!.......to go through it all would take days.....I'm just listing what I can see in the first few pages." This went on and on for SEVEN more months - quite obviously they were doing it deliberately. Nothing but lies and incompetence from then on. No book, No free author copies, no refund and no further contact.

Useless social media posts
Scam. I have a contract signed by Louis Gray (737-221-4122) of Amazon Publishing Assistant guaranteeing a full refund of my investment if they fail to produce sales equivalent to or exceeding my fees. They created a web site and Facebook page touting my book. The sales that they produced amounted to less than 10 books. Their efforts create little or no results and they know it.
They are only affiliated with Amazon. com, Inc. to the extent that they offer to set up books with Amazon and Kindle. (Something that any author could do themselves.) They imply that they are Amazon.com, Inc. when you call them. Check their web site or call 512-566-4540 and you will get a smooth sales pitch about all the useless things that they plan to do for you.
When I asked for the refund specified in the contract, they were nowhere to be found. When I sued in small claims court, the court officer could not find them. Originally at 7924 Aspen Highlands in Austin, Texas, they dodged my first attempt by moving to 9310 Metric Blvd., Suite C, Austin, Texas 78758. Again, the court officer could not locate them. I called to ask for a face-to-face interview posing as a new customer and Jessica (a Burnett, Texas number) told me that the only way they conduct business is via internet. When I insisted, she offered a Zoom conference. I received a thank you from Ayelia Networks acknowledging the conversation.
To add insult to injury, they blocked the web site that I own.

Terrible experience and somewhat deceptive over what they can and cannot accomplish
This is an extremely deceptive site; they made multiple promises and failed to deliver. I have edited and published about 21 books. I thought I would give Amazon a try. It was a disaster. I have never had a worse experience with an editing team. Although the editors did respond to phone calls and emails. The formatting was a disaster; it was inconsistent throughout the book, and at times it even had page numbers in the middle of paragraphs.
It is worth mentioning that this was a historical book with references and photos, and I believe they really did not know how to format it. Perhaps if you have a very simple product with no references, bibliography, or photos, it may be worth a look. However, if your book has a table of contents, references, photos, or requires an index. Please save yourself the pain and look elsewhere. In my opinion, this was a waste of my money and time. I ended up without a product, certainly not one I want my name on. I finally gave up - chalked it up to a learning experience and moved on.

Using this company was a waste of…
I wasted several months of my Time by trusting this Company. I’m glad I only made a partial payment. I ended up correcting mistakes they made, resulting in me doing all the work myself. Because my experience with Amazon Publishing Assistance I’m afraid to pay another company. My book has not been published. All in all, you can do this on your own quicker, without the headache and disappointment.
1) Jessica ? Customer Service, Promised to refund my money if didn’t receive the service they promised, but I never got it. She no longer answers my calls.
2) Chad Wilson is not qualified to be a Project Manager and his English is below average.
3) Ted Baker is suppose to their Superior, but it is impossible to contact him.
Warning: Use this company at your own discretion.

This was the worst experience
This was the worst experience. I purchased their "Most Popular Package" only to end up doing all of the work myself and fixing mistakes they made to my original manuscript. In the end, I ended up working alone with the same manuscript I sent them. All in all, you can do this on your own quicker, without the headache, and for FREEEEEEE!!! I had no idea they were a scam because of their name. They are slow to respond and do a terrible job. Do not use this company.
