Response to Edited Comments: Ronald, I have no idea why you would respond with personal insults to the explanation I submitted. I’m sure you misread my response, but allow me to restate or support the facts in my previous response: MOST IMPORTANT: Your lenses are covered by a 2-Year Warranty. Just call us. We will replace them. We publish this fact on every Oakley Rx product page. You misquoted my original statement that ”there is no correlation between scratch resistance and what you pay for a pair of prescription glasses”. In your response you replaced “scratch resistance” with “quality”. I stand by my original statement. You referred to the fact that polycarbonate lenses can withstand a 12-Gauge shotgun blast as “stupid”. This fact is not only supported by ANSI, but there are dozens of YouTube videos of people shooting lenses with firearms. This video came up first in my search: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmY5bNGl4M8 This guy shot the glasses from 5 feet away. The usual test is done from 20 yards, but you can see that even from this close range the lenses did not break. This test was done in a laboratory setting where the results are easier to measure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm9CAnG7bZI Here a 500 gram missile is fired into a polycarbonate lens. The lens does not break, and returns to its original shape. As stated earlier, there is no need for you to “bite the bullet”. Your lenses have an awesome warranty. We are happy to have these remade. I hope this puts all of your concerns to rest. Please let us know if you would like to have those lenses remade. Original response 6-19-2018: Ronald, We hate to hear your glasses got damaged, but these Authentic Oakley Rx lenses have a 1-Time, 2-Year warranty. Just send them back and we’ll have Oakley remake these lenses. There is a $35 processing fee for this service. These Free-Form Rx lenses are made with some amazing technology, and the lens material can withstand a 12-Gauge shotgun blast. There are only two lens materials approved by ANSI for sports sunglasses. These are polycarbonate and Trivex. Oakley uses a high grade polycarbonate lens material called Plutonite. These sports lenses are unbreakable because they are flexible. If we apply enough hardener to make the lens scratch-proof it will no longer be flexible. (And the optics would be terrible.) Years of research and experience have given our lab, as well as the Oakley lab, the expertise to produce a lens that balances the amount of hardeners to maximize optical clarity and strength with scratch protection. ALL lenses, prescription or not, that are designed for sports activities, will scratch more easily than a glass lens. But we would never use glass because these lenses are heavy, they can shatter right in front of your eyes with minimal impact, and they cannot be surfaced with Free-Form technology. The point I hoped to make is that there is no correlation between scratch resistance and what you pay for a pair of prescription glasses. All Oakley lenses have a phenomenal hardener on them. But if you drop them on concrete, the concrete will usually win. We can adjust these glasses so they fit a little tighter, or perhaps a retainer cord would be a good idea. We’re expecting your call.
