They say sign up free than say you have a mtch and pay to see
They say sign up free. Than send email saying you have a match and than asks for 19 dollars a month. It is disgusting what they are doing. I'm a professional psychologist and am so disappointed of that behavior.

Laurie I'm so sorry that you are having a poor experience of Adopted.com!
I will provide some information about our service that I think will help.
Many services charge hundreds to thousands of dollars up front to work on an adoption reunion search. We have created a wonderfully different way to connect you with family members that you're separated from due to adoption - that is a mutual registry that has been built over the span of almost 20 years!
All of the profiles on our site are member-generated. Each one was created by someone who is searching. There are currently more than 1 Million active search profiles.
When you create a new profile, we show you if there is a strong match for you, before you subscribe to the paid features.
You have the option to leave your profile posted (100% for free) or you can subscribe to use our paid features. The cost is very low, and we have continuous reunions (people finding long lost family for a fantastically low cost) as we are the largest registry of adoption records in the world.
Some things that we provide to you fully at our own cost right now are:
- FREE comparison of your DNA files to look for leads
- FREE always there is no cost to reply to messages, ever
I think you will find that we offer an amazing service, including out of this world search support, and that you won't find very many services where the founder is involved in daily operations and replies to your concerns directly.
When you are on Adopted.com, please click the Support link (at the bottom of any page) to reach Nikki and me directly, any time you need to.
I hope so much that we can earn more stars from you Laurie!
It matters a lot to us.
With regards and respect,
Katharine, Founder of Adopted.com

Useless
Paid for a month subscription to see matches only to find that not a single one contained the key match of ‘country’ origin. Cancelled subscription same day to ensure I wouldn’t be inadvertently charged another month and cancelation was effective immediately so I didn’t even get my month.
Might be fine for those adopted from westernised countries but don’t bother for any more unique or non English speaking places as it seems the subscription numbers from there are minimal.
Edit 28/09/23*** I acknowledge your contact and have attempted to reply but seems I am limited to 400 characters. On that note, my view is that your technology and interface of the website is dated and clunky. Certainly not user friendly and not what a person of this generation would expect to see from a user interface. Perhaps 10 years ago it would have been acceptable.
Appreciate your monthly refund but maintain that my access to all functions was removed after I cancelled. Upon attempting another search I received a notification to the effect of "please subscribe to access this function".
Also maintain that the database served no successful matches for my place of birth and place of adoption - being Taiwan. Zero matches.... And my view is that to expect people to continue to pay the monthly fee of circa $28 AUD per month to maintain the ability to be contacted is a farce and an absolute waste of money.
My view is only my view and my experience - best wishes to those who have success from the site. My advice if asked however would be to save up on what would be the monthly subscription fee for a few years and just pay for a private investigator to track down your family if your search is so important to you.

Hello Lysa,
This is Katharine. I'm the founder of Adopted.com.
Lysa I'm struggling a bit to reply to your review. I want to be as helpful as possible, and every member on my site truly matters to me, so I'm putting a lot of thought into it.
It's tough to read someone write that my life's work is useless, a farce, a waste, and not what your generation would expect from me. Maybe you are right - our generations might have different standards in a lot of ways.
However I have been operating Adopted.com for close to 19 years (almost half my life) during which time I am involved in member support on a daily basis. I don't know which generation you are referring to, but I believe all generations deserve kind respect, and humanity.
From our community of over 1.2 million members, the compliment we receive most often is about our interface. People enjoy how user friendly it is, and I've refined it over the years to make sure it stays approachable while also being up to date. Is designed to be simple to use on purpose, so that it is useful for all generations. Not just yours.
We keep up with technology in other very important ways as well, including developing DNA comparison services that we still offer completely for free, among many other things.
I agree with you - we don't have a lot of members currently based in Taiwan. If you didn't find your match there, I understand. As you noted, we provided a refund to you when you requested it.
You have suggested people should save up for an investigator rather than use our mutual registry, and of course this is an option, however almost daily now I receive a new message to report a match that was done in only a few minutes on my site.
This is one of the reasons people continue to find so much value in Adopted.com, along with our member community and many other supporting services.
Some of the things you commented on, such as our having a message limit on initial contact, protects our members from others spamming them - but there is no opportunity for me to go through your concerns with you, as you have declined to communicate with me when I reached out to you to offer support.
So, we will have to live with your 1 star review.
Please know, though, the damage that a very poor review such as yours does is to divert people whose match is waiting on Adopted.com, from connecting with them. If your match is not on the registry I am honestly disappointed about it, but I don't want that to result in others missing their opportunity.
My team and I hope so much that your search is successful soon Lysa, so you can have the reunion you are seeking and that you deserve.
With respect,
Katharine

Ridiculous Match - Money grab based on hope?
I would give zero if I could.
UPDATE; Following this review I was contacted by the CEO(?) of the company based in Canada who was concerned about my review. Well done for the follow up - I expressed how hurt I had been and suggested changes to how post results. She asked me to add to my review following the call - I am a bit late but that is because I thought instead of being put throught the emotional turmoil I would employ an adoption tracing company - this cost a lot (money) but was emotionally totally different.

What an awful way to trick people into…
What an awful way to trick people into paying up.
I am helping my wife search for her birth mother, we have all very specific information about her mother and entered all the required info to be told there is a match but we need to pay to view.
As soon i saw the results a 5 year old could easily tell the results where total garbage and totally unrelated, total rip off.

This review is so deeply sad to receive. We have overwhelmingly positive reviews, so we always want to respond and find out what went wrong.
Every single concern and suggestion are considered by our team. Nobody falls through the cracks! So of course it's a terrible experience to receive this review and not be able to reach out to the author to offer any help.
When we asked TrustPilot to help us get in contact with the person who wrote the review, they declined to help us do that.
So, we have no way to know what went wrong and no way to help!
Dean if you are reading this, please click Support (on any page of our site) to reach us directly. This is the way our members normally reach out for support, and we would really love the opportunity to answer your concerns and support you with your search.
With much respect from me (founder of Adopted.com) and our whole team.

Don’t waste you money.
It says you have a 100% match so you pay the money to see the match and it’s not a match at all. It’s just a way to get you to pay the money so don’t bother!

Adopted.com: Good Intentions; Poor performance.
Ditto Bill Smith's first one-star review. You give specific info (such as birth date, hospital, city, and state) and they entice you to spend $20 to see 100% matches of people who have not stated that much info. Then you send those 100% matches a message asking to clarify their date of birth, for example and you find it was an entirely different date, or in my case 67% of the people I messaged never bothered to respond. On top of that, you can't edit your message sent nor add a second message to encourage a response.
While is not really the fault of the site that some people are jerks/whatever who sign up to find a lost birth relative and then never have the courtesy to respond to a potential match, it is the fault of the site that you can't send additional messages. And it's their fault for listing as a 100% match someone who has only listed sketchy info that obviously does not match your info.
And their 90% matches are a joke. What good are 2000 listings of people born in a different town, different state, or on a different date from the info you enter? Maybe I'm supposed to pick out a female born to someone else in a different state two years later and try to convince her that she's my wife's long-lost daughter? Makes no sense.
I'm not asking for or expecting a refund--I paid my $20 and took my chances, but I sure as H ain't gonna make it $40!

Hi Al, thanks for taking the time to post a review.
We don't agree with you that any of our members are jerks. People are all working towards the same goal of a reunion! It can be a stressful search so we treat everyone with respect.
You mentioned a few times that you would like to be able to send more than one message to someone. That is totally possible! You can send up to 3 messages in a row before we require a reply from the other party. This keeps everyone from bothering one another. In 15 years I haven't had one complaint on that point!
We really love to help our members! Please click Support at the bottom of any page to reach us directly. That way we can see your search profiles. It's not as easy to support your search here.
Or, if you would like to simply learn more about how our matches work, you can watch the video I recorded to make this easier:

search detailed many 90% accurate matches. After paying to see the matches turned out to be NOWHERE NEAR my search parameters. I would label this as a scam. Subscription cancelled within 10 minutes. AVOID.
Response from Adopted.comMay 28, 2020
Paul we have just been made aware of your concerns here. Please know that your 9/10 matches will always have one question that doesn't match the other party.
You can learn more about our matching here: https://youtu.be/uloT9WvX2GE
You can also contact us at any time by clicking Support from any page of Adopted.com so we can view your search with you.
We feel badly that this comment was not addressed sooner. In the future please be sure to reach out to us directly, rather than posting for help on unrelated platforms. This allows us to look at your search with you and support you immediately!
We wish you all the best with your search and hope to be able to connect with you in the future.
