I just wanted to support a family run independent business but found their customer service disappointing. The member of staff who served us was quite trenchant, abrupt and sanctimonious. He charged us $500 for restocking fee. I'm sorry but I cannot allow these businesses to nickel and dime me to death with their surreptitious fees. In the end I lost more than $500 in the transaction. John was the reason I gave 3 stars because he added a lens to my kit.

The people there are friendly and will help once approached but half of them seem distracted so you may have to go find them. This isn't too much of an issue because there has always been a large number of staff when I have gone in. There is lots of open space for a camera store, and the selection is small but seems of high quality.

The service from 42nd PHOTO is always first class in fact five star . But the delivery company they use is very poor especially when receiving paper they have no respect For the product they deliver. I have never received darkroom paper in perfect condition

Quick on the delivery. Dont like the calls to upsale.

42nd Street tried to tell us that we had to pay $500 more for the camera and lens that worked in the US. They said I accidentally ordered the European version. So I believed them and paid an extra $500. Turns out, there are not two types. They are refusing to credit me the $500. I can be reached at 720-220-8852 12/21/21015. After reading my negative review, a rep from 42nd Street called and has resolved this issue. A refund was issued as requested. Thanks 42nd Street for doing the right thing.

This is the second time I have purchased multiple cameras from 42nd Street Photo. The first time they did not send the accessories to my two sons, just the cameras, this was at least 7 years ago. It was Christmas and I took into account the time of year. I have now purchased two more cameras one for my son and one for myself, both Lumix GX7 camera bodies only. I received a call from 42nd Street Photo confirming my order only to find out the camera comes with no factory warranty (buyers beware) and they wanted to know if we wanted to buy insurance. I should have cancelled my order but did not as this might have cost us a 20% restocking fee and the last order had no quality issues. The camera arrived yesterday and to my surprise was very poorly packaged in a small box with only paper packaging on two sides and the camera box itself unprotected on the bottom and one side. This is no way to ship expensive camera equipment and although they have been in business over 50 years their packing department shows they are still packing things the way they did over 50 years ago. Why would they not use bubble wrap or packing peanuts when shipping cameras? Does 42nd Street Photo think that somehow these boxes never get dropped or thrown around? Seriously bad thinking! The owner needs to go watch what happens at any sorting facility to see how packages are handled. I can only hope no damage has occurred to this new camera. If you have to charge more for better packaging just say so. Another $2.00 would offer a lot of protection and the cost is minimal. Not a bad place to do business but if factory warranty and correct packaging are important to you ask before buying or you may end up spending more on secondary warranty insurance or even worse trying to resolve damage during shipping.

Look, you will get low prices from 42photo.com. But you will get none of the "take my money and leave me alone" satisfaction with Amazon or Buy or other reputable retailers. They are aggressively low priced to entice people and then hit them with vague and contradictory follow up sales pitches. If you know this and simply call it out, you will get a product with a low price. If you can't handle the phone confrontation and "working" for your low price, buy from Amazon. I don't like it, but I saved 5% off Amazon's price on a $600+ camera. The savings will get me a charger and two spare batteries from Ebay. I just had to fend off a chump. Could be worse. First world problems, people. But, I do think it ridiculous, nonetheless.
