TOTAL NIGHTMARE: Extortion, Intimidation, Police Intervention, and Stolen Identity Documents!
If you value your sanity, your money, and your personal identity, DO NOT hire Dependable Movers or Smooth Move Logistics. This is not a professional moving service; it is an organized, predatory hostage-shipment operation. My interstate move from Texas to Indiana has been a living hell since late June. I hired Dependable Movers to help me with the move with a July 11 delivery date. They collected a deposit from me, then sold my job to Smooth Move Logistics. They came to pick up my things on June 26, doubled the price and used threatening body language and psychological tactics to scare me into going ahead with the move. Several weeks into the move I found out that the "boss lady" at Smooth Move Logistics, Nicole, operates with an unbelievable level of cruelty, completely devoid of basic empathy or a conscience. The Delays & Fake Storage Fees: After ignoring my calls and giving me the run-around for weeks, Nicole acted as though she didn’t have my delivery address—despite me providing it to her at least twice. On August 26, she finally asked that I email it to her, a blatant trap she later used to justify holding my lifelong belongings hostage in a warehouse for two months. On August 31, she lied and told me my things were loading that week. Instead, she ghosted my calls on September 9, only to call back on September 10 to slap me with a surprise $600 illegal storage fee. When I broke down in tears because I didn't have the money, Nicole mocked my distress, coldly stating: "I don't know why you are crying. You think this is a joke? You think this is a joke?" The Delivery Extortion & Intimidation: Nicole weaponized timelines to trap me. She gave me less than 24 hours' notice for delivery, and when I begged to reschedule because the notice was too short, she ignored my calls. The next day, she called to threaten me, stating that a reschedule would cost "a couple more thousands of dollars" to offload the truck. Left with no choice, I told her to proceed, only for her to delay the delivery anyway. When the truck finally arrived on September 17, the extortion continued. The drivers claimed their truck was too big for my driveway and forced me to follow them to a U-Haul location. They stated they would offload my things into a smaller truck but refused to bring them into my apartment, leaving me—a single individual—to carry a king-sized adjustable bed, an incredibly heavy mattress, a refrigerator, and a massive real marble-top dining table from the curb alone. They openly stated they would only help me if I "took care of them" with an under-the-table cash bribe, warning me never to tell Nicole because she is "strict and would fire them". Police Intervention & Grand Theft: Backed into a corner and terrified they would drive away with my life's belongings, I broke down in tears at the U-Haul location. Thankfully, an honorable U-Haul employee saw my distress and called the authorities. The police arrived on-site, and only under police supervision did these criminals finally release my items. The drivers had loaded items that didn't belong to me on the U-Haul truck. I handed the items back to them. The Aftermath: Destroyed Property and Stolen Identity: The nightmare didn't end when the truck left. Upon unpacking, I discovered they completely ignored my explicit packing instructions. • Property Damage: The legs to my high-end adjustable bed frame are missing, the bed is bent into a bizarre, unnatural shape, a crucial bottom piece is shattered, and it is completely broken and unusable. My refrigerator handles are entirely missing. • STOLEN DOCUMENTS: Crucial, irreplaceable boxes are missing. They stole the box containing my Passport, university degrees, and vital legal documents. I called Dependable Movers several times during this whole fiasco, but they only kept promising to call the movers and find out what’s going on. Nicole and her crew at Smooth Move Logistics / Dependable Movers did not just handle a move poorly—they committed a felony, engaged in extortion, mocked human suffering, and compromised my identity. A formal federal criminal complaint has been lodged with the FMCSA, a supplemental police report for grand theft has been filed, and identity theft alerts have been triggered. Run as fast as you can from Nicole and these predatory companies. If you have received items that do not belong to you, I'm looking for my important documents and other boxes with either blue Bathroom, green Kitchen or red office labels with writing on them. Let's coordinate and get our treasures back.
