€43,000 Worth of Valuables Stolen…
€43,000 Worth of Valuables Stolen During My Airbnb Stay in Madrid — A Terrifying Experience I want to share one of the most traumatic and shocking experiences I have ever had while traveling, and warn other travelers about the serious security concerns I experienced at an Airbnb property managed by Wynwood House, located at Calle de Santa Lucía 17, Madrid, Spain. On August 10, 2026, I left my apartment for approximately three hours to play tennis. My small dog was alone inside the apartment. When I returned, everything appeared completely normal. There were no obvious signs of forced entry, no broken doors, and no visible damage. However, on August 11, I discovered that my personal belongings, including expensive watches, jewelry, and cash, with a total estimated value of €43,000, had disappeared. What made this situation even more disturbing was that my combination-locked suitcase appeared to have been opened and closed again without any visible damage. The apartment itself had an electronic access-code lock. This immediately raised extremely serious questions about who could access the property, how many people had access codes, and whether the electronic lock’s entry history could explain what happened. I immediately contacted the police, filed an official report, and officers attended the apartment to investigate. I also contacted the property management company and requested access records, relevant CCTV footage, and information about who had access to the apartment during my stay. Unfortunately, I did not receive the level of transparency, cooperation, and reassurance that I expected after reporting such a serious incident. I contacted Airbnb as well because I no longer felt safe staying in the property. I want to make something very clear: I am not claiming to know who committed this theft. Determining responsibility is a matter for the police investigation. However, I believe that a professional property management company has a responsibility to take an incident of this magnitude extremely seriously, cooperate transparently with the authorities, and help establish how unauthorized access might have occurred. This was not simply about losing money. I lost valuable personal possessions, my sense of security, and my trust in the accommodation. The thought that someone may have accessed a locked apartment containing my personal belongings — while my little dog was also there during my absence — is deeply disturbing. I lost approximately €43,000, and I am still seeking clear answers about how this could have happened. I am sharing my experience publicly because I believe other travelers deserve to know about serious security incidents before choosing where to stay. I strongly encourage anyone considering accommodation managed by this company to ask detailed questions about electronic locks, access codes, security procedures, and how incidents are handled. Until these serious concerns are properly addressed, I cannot recommend this property or its management. No traveler should have to experience something like this.
