I signed up for a WSJ account as a grad student for a paper I was writing. They offered me a deal to subscribe for $1 for the first month. After taking my money, they prevented me from logging in, claiming that I had not sufficiently proven that I was a student. I assumed the transaction had not gone through until a month later I see that I am being charged $20 for an account that I have never accessed.

Extremely difficult to cancel subscription, entirely by design. You will not be able to cancel your subscription online. I had to sign up for a college course unfortunately. Glad I never have to read their garbage opinions anymore.

Absolutely scam!! Only realised the renewals having been running for months after notifying by Amex. When trying to cancel the subscription, they make it absolutely difficult to cancel especially if you are not residing in the US. The country toll free call provided by their 'Help Centre' chat bot is not working at all. Three attempts to call their one and only 'cancellation number' but one call was sent to customer service survey in the middle of the conversation. Also, their US CS hotline operators keep asking odd security questions like what is my US zip code knowing that I registered with my UK address. When speaking with the Subscription Team, the agent, Oscar (refused to give his real name) was arrogant and unfriendly. No decency even to recognise those unauthorised renewals let alone refunds. He murmured when I was speaking. No respect to paying customers whatsoever. Absolutely shady company. Enrolled by accident. Definitely don't fall into the $1.20 trap and please spread the words.

It's a trap, they have eliminated ways for you to unsubscribe.

Wall street Journal... you can't cancel the subscription online or automatically. Call must be made during business hours... What a shady business. Enrolled for school purposes. Never again

Almost impossible to cancel the subscription if you live overseas. When you subscribe, they don't tell you that you can only cancel by calling. I spent about $30 waiting in a phone queue until I could cancel. This is a deeply dishonest business.

Predatory subscription services If you want to get rid of this subscription without having to wait for hours on the telephone, just update your address to a California address and you will be able to cancel your subscription online through the chat.
