Terrible experience
Terrible experience. Went online to order a gift basket for a relative who lives in Washington DC. The photograph we found online on the company’s website was perfect for a birthday gift basket. Blue is her favorite color, and this basket included a blue coffee mug alongside some other high-end food items. The basket she received was awful. It has Planters trail mix and Crunch N Munch, and other items you could find at a gas station. There was no blue mug. It had a white mug with roses on it. Basically, nothing in the gift basket matched the description or the photographs on their website. Additionally, the quality of the substitutions was awful and frankly embarrassing. When I reached out to the company via phone, they requested that I email them photographs of the basket she received, and I did. Their only response was to reply that “substitutions are allowed and there is nothing they can do.” I called back, and spoke to a supervisor, and was able to get a 30% refund, but only on the items that had been substituted. Basically, we got a $19 refund on a $120 basket of crap. Needless to say, I will never use this company again, and I have no idea how they have any good online reviews. Buyer beware.

Hi Kim, we’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how disappointing it was to receive a gift that looked so different from what you selected online.
We sincerely apologize that the substitutions did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the mug, food selections, and overall presentation. We understand how frustrating and embarrassing this can be when the gift is intended for a special occasion.
While substitutions may sometimes be necessary due to product availability, our goal is always to maintain the overall quality, value, and style of the original gift. We appreciate your feedback that this was not achieved in this case.
We’re also sorry that our initial response left you feeling that your concerns were not properly addressed. Your feedback regarding the substitutions, product quality, and customer service has been shared internally for further review.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and again, we apologize for the disappointment.

False Advertising
As many others have highlighted, this company falsely advertises as a local company. They are not. Any purchased goods are shipped from NJ via USPS and they do not use any local goods (like their site states). Their customer service phoneline is a Washington DC phone number that has a voicemail. They call you back on that same number, but Charlito quickly identified they are not a Washington DC company. When questioned why they advertise as a local company, he contended that they do not attempt to advertise as a local company. As others have noted, that’s clearly not the case when they name is Washington Baskets, they emphasize local goods and delivery in the DMV, and they mask with a DC-based number.
Half of my delivery did not arrive and the other half looked nothing like the photo, and nowhere near the price paid. They refused to refund anything because they claimed USPS said the package was delivered.
Very much a false company! Steer clear

No Star!!! Do not trust...
No Star!!! Do not trust... Looks local when you search, but not. Images not followed. Description not followed. Delivery instructions not followed. Nothing as ordered. Advertised gift-style packaging, arrived in a regular cardboard box. Advertised unique beers, received duplicates. Cake spoiled. Bottles broken. Delivery late. Package left unattended. After complaining, they said unavailable items may be substituted without asking. Not acceptable. Not honest advertising. Do not trust. Find a real local store instead.
Update after company reply:
Their reply admits the order was late, damaged, spoiled, had duplicate items, wrong packaging, and ignored delivery instructions. Their customer service emails, by Charlito and Christine Ann, were dismissive and repeatedly avoided the actual issues. This public reply is far from a real apology or resolution. Still no real resolution for over $400 CAD paid. A public apology is not a refund. I have photos of what was delivered, but Trustpilot is not giving me an option to upload them here.

Thank you for your feedback, and we sincerely apologize for the numerous issues you experienced with your recent order. We understand how incredibly frustrating and disappointing it is to receive a late, damaged package that did not meet the expectations set by our website.
While our substitution policy allows for alternative items to be used when specific products are out of stock, it is never acceptable for a gift to arrive with duplicate items replacing unique selections, spoiled components, or broken bottles. We also regret that our presentation and delivery instructions were completely missed, resulting in the gift arriving in a standard box and being left unattended.
We take your comments regarding our transparency and customer service response very seriously. Your detailed feedback has been passed directly to our fulfillment, logistics, and management teams so we can address these critical lapses in quality control, transit handling, and communication.

Borderline Scam
The Pros:
- Quick shipping
- Reply from Customer Service was quick
The Cons: Literally Everything Else
1. The basket I received included not one single item listed on their site. I understood that one or two items may need to be substituted, but 100%? Unacceptable.
2. One of the substitutions was a frozen item. The package was mailed on 4/24 and arrives on 4/27. It did not include cold packs or insulation, so one of items arrived melted and spoiled.
3. Their FAQs page is unavailable, as of 4/28, which is where their refund policy is supposedly located.

Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment you experienced with your recent order and for the frustration regarding the substitutions and the condition of the items received.
We understand your frustration regarding the extensive substitutions. Our policy allows for items of equal or greater value to be substituted to ensure timely delivery, but we regret that the final selection did not meet your expectations. Additionally, we apologize for the lack of temperature-controlled packaging for the perishable items; we have taken note of this to improve our shipping processes for sensitive products.
Regarding our website, we also apologize for the technical difficulties you encountered with our FAQs page and are working to ensure all information is accessible.
We have noted your concerns as we work to improve our service and the quality of our gift baskets. We truly appreciate your feedback.

I wouldnt order from here again
I placed an order for a gift basket with the expectation that it would arrive in time for the recipient’s birthday, especially since the website advertises a “1-day delivery” option. Unfortunately, this claim is misleading.
Despite the company name, the baskets are not actually shipped from Washington, which means delivery times are no different than ordering from anywhere else in the country.
After placing my order, I contacted the shipping carrier to confirm delivery status and was told they had not yet received the package. However, when I reached out to Washington Baskets, I was informed that USPS already had the item. This conflicting information left me with no clarity on where the order actually was.
I placed the order on April 8th, and it was not delivered until April 15th, far from the advertised 1-day delivery timeframe. As a result, the basket did not arrive in time for the birthday it was intended for and ultimately was a waste of money as I had to keep a basket I didnt need.
Customer service was also disappointing. The representative seemed to be reading from a script and was unable to offer any meaningful assistance or resolution. I was told that once the item is delivered, a refund is not possible, leaving me stuck with a $290 purchase that failed to serve its purpose.
Overall, this was a frustrating experience due to misleading shipping claims, lack of transparency, and unhelpful customer support.

We want to sincerely apologize for the frustration and disappointment regarding your recent order. We understand how important it is for a gift to arrive in time for a birthday, and we regret that we fell short of your expectations.
Regarding your experience, we would like to clarify that the free shipping option selected at checkout is a non-guaranteed delivery timeline. However, we take full responsibility for the conflicting information you received regarding the tracking status and the confusion surrounding our shipping origins. We also apologize that our support team’s response felt scripted and did not provide the level of assistance you deserved for such a significant purchase.
We are currently reviewing our shipping descriptions and internal communication protocols to ensure we provide better transparency and service to our customers.

I spent some time selecting Easter food…
I spent some time selecting Easter food I thought my son would enjoy and the company substituted most of that with food he wouldn't enjoy--gluten free and sugar free. Trail mix instead of chocolate. Etc. I honestly thought they had mixed up my basket with someone else's. What is really bad is that they failed to take responsibility and said I should have read the fine print about substitutions on their website.
I just got this third response from Customer Service. The Easter basket was already late. This was "the rare case" where the entire basket was substituted for items not really appropriate such as sugar-free and gluten-free. I have to smile when they end the letter hoping we enjoyed the overall experience:
Thank you for contacting us.
We always do our best to ensure every gift exceeds expectations. However, from time to time, substitutions may be necessary to make sure orders are delivered on time, especially when a particular item becomes unavailable or discontinued after our product listings have been published.
Substitutions are common in the gifting industry, as product availability can change frequently. In these situations, we carefully replace unavailable items with similar products of equal or greater value to complete the order without delay. The degree of substitution can vary, and in rare cases, the entire contents of a gift may differ from what was originally shown.
Because of the high volume of orders and time-sensitive nature of many deliveries, we’re not always able to contact customers in advance about specific substitutions. As outlined in our substitution and refund policies on our website, unavailable items may be replaced with similar products of equal or greater value, and substitutions are not eligible for refunds or compensation.
We truly appreciate your understanding and hope the recipient enjoyed the thoughtful gesture and overall experience.
Response from Washington BasketsApr 10, 2026
We want to sincerely apologize for the frustration and disappointment regarding your son's Easter basket. We understand how upsetting it is to spend time carefully selecting specific treats only to have them replaced with items that do not align with his tastes, especially when those substitutions involve specialized options like gluten-free or sugar-free products.
Regarding your experience, we clearly missed the mark in our communication. We regret that our previous response felt dismissive and focused on "fine print" rather than your experience as a customer. We take full responsibility for the lack of accountability you felt, and we are taking this feedback to heart as a "be better" moment for our team. We are currently reviewing our substitution policies and internal training to ensure we remain true to the thoughtfulness our customers put into their gifts.

I have to say that I am extremely disappointed
I have to say that I am extremely disappointed by the extraordinary delay, lack of communication, missing the Brush, missing the 'wood file', the plant was a succulent and the board is not what was advertised.
Even worse, the delivery was left in the middle of the driveway at 830pm last night... the champagne would have exploded as it froze.
This was a terrible experience and so not worth the expense... horrible
Response from Washington BasketsFeb 3, 2026
Thank you for your feedback! We’re sorry to hear your order wasn’t exactly what you expected. To ensure you get your items as quickly as possible, we occasionally use a substitution policy when specific items are out of stock. Regarding delivery, we rely on third-party couriers, so while we aim for speed, occasional delays can happen once it leaves our hands. If your items arrived damaged, please reach out to us directly so we can make it right!
