VM Gives the 'Writer' a platform for 'Rants~Agendas-and Family Stories' among other categories. As well as a fabulous 'drop-down' to forward to whomever we wish: Such-a-Deal ~ What a bargain for 10 Bucks! Those that are 'Gripping' are not paying attention to VM's commitments to 'members!' They are doing what has been promised, without interference; a nice way to do business.
Yes, some of us would like to be 'Top' once. But current events certainly trump old family stories right out of the popular demographics; just business.
Suggestion: Although I am aware that (after 4 months) I've received pushing 1000 Reads, I'm told that 'comments' are not left due to the reader's shyness-reluctance due to personal information asked in order to do so.

Immediately locked out of account after paying
I literally just created an account and paid $49 for the year. Immediately I was locked out of my account. It keeps saying my password is wrong and it won't send me any "Forgot Password" links I've been requesting. I got the charge notification from my credit card though! I'm so pissed. I emailed them demanding a full refund. I better get it! BS!

VOCAL ARE FAKES!
.
VOCAL+ is NOT really a “writers’ group”
.
VOCAL+ is instead just a 10$ monthly sweepstakes.
.
It is a gambling site that relieves itself from any tax liability by obfuscating itself as a type of “competition provider”.
.
THAT is why,
The so-called competition winners are so bad!
THAT is why,
How well-written or creative your submissions are, will Never really Matter!

Contest “winners” are amateur which makes me question Vocal
I’ve been on Vocal for a year now and, at first, I was very excited about the challenges. I love writing short stories and having a prompt (for a contest) is motivating to me. Now, I don’t mean to be pompous but, after every contest winner is announced, I am shocked. As a long time writer in the craft, I can confidently say that the “winners” wouldn’t even get a B in composition class.
The most recent “winner” had misspelled words in their story. The second place “winner” had an entire paragraph without any punctuation. Not a single period. How on Earth can that be the winner? No hook, no pacing, mostly telling and not showing, and overall too boring to finish reading. It seems they choose their winners at random. I submitted my recent story/entree to several critique FaceBook Groups (who are often very forthcoming with their negative feedback) and only received high praise for my work. I ran the piece by beta readers and an editor. I am confident it was a solid piece.
Now, I would feel differently if the winner’s story was actually well-written and intriguing. I’d be disappointed but say, “okay, that’s fair. It’s really good and deserves the win!!”
The fact that the winners are often (if not always) amateur writers (and many reviewers on here agree) makes me lose faith in the platform.
Another notable strange thing about Vocal is that there is no messaging or public “reads” displayed. So, we have no way of verifying if the winners are real people or even to complain about the poor writing.
I don’t think Vocal is a scam in the sense that they will steal your money, but something is off. How can a writing platform not know how to choose well-written contest winners?

I wrote a review when I first started…
I wrote a review when I first started and I am adding to that now. Vocal is a basic blog, it is how the writer utilizes it. You can gain followers and market your work easily on Vocal, which is their structure. It's not an advertising website or an employee - it is a professional b l o g for freelancers. They are marketing and encouraging beginners is why you see the choices they have for winners. All that being said, they have a serious problem with paying out. I got paid the first time without any trouble and when I changed the banking info it is now impossible to get my money - their issue is with Stripe. Stripe is awful to deal with! I think Vocal grew too big, too fast and while they are spending time developing their corporate culture they do not have front-line customer service that knows how to deal with issues, like payments, that should be easily resolved.

Very poor website
Very poor website.
I can never, ever login as it believes my passwords to always be wrong. I email Vocal asking for help and they either never reply or are very rude and impatient in their messages.
Very unfortunate, but yes, I've paid to be treated like dirt. Even my requests on how to complain are ignored.

Inexperienced judges and hard to make money
Their challenges are the only reason I joined and sorry to say winners of these are extremely amateur. Difficult to trust a "writing platform" when their judges clearly have no idea what good writing is. Aside from this, making money on this site is extremely difficult. Don't waste your time.
