Absolute bad, when having a class sometimes they have the servers not working and saying it was working at the time and I had a class. I used to be a member at their website, but no more. There were unfriendly teachers who did not answer to my first introduction, however friendly and courteous it was, and that was because of my nationality. Upon pretending to be someone else from another nationality/country, the very same teacher answered immediately and enthusiastically. These tutors on Verbling, who allow themselves to discriminate on the basis of what your nationality or race is, should be , at least, suspended for a while, warned, or reproved. That's what happens in another website I have become a member of, but not on Verbling, unfortunately. This unhappy experience happened more than two years ago, but I still feel stung.

Its hard to get students. I might quit soon.

Me hice una cuenta para registrarme como profesora, pero entonces tuve acceso a una lista más detallada de requisitos y algunos no los cumplía, así que al ver que me regalaban una clase gratuita por ser nueva usuaria, me dispuse a buscar un profesor nativo para que me diera algo de feedback respecto a mi acento en inglés (es mi principal área de especialización y soy perfeccionista, me gusta asegurarme de que estoy dando el mejor servicio posible a mis alumnos y pienso que siempre se puede mejorar en algo, incluso aunque ya seas bueno en lo tuyo). Algunos de los profesores ni siquiera me respondieron (lo cual entiendo porque también enseño online y sé que uno no puede estar disponible 24/7), pero mi sorpresa y disgusto vino precisamente de parte de los que sí respondieron a mi mensaje. Algunos con aires arrogantes y pocas ganas de trabajar, como si supieran mejor que yo qué método de aprendizaje o tipo de clase me conviene (algo bastante insólito teniendo en cuenta que yo misma soy profesora de idiomas y así se lo hice saber a todos). Luego estaba la única profesora que fue amable pero se saltó las normas de la plataforma compartiendo información personal y animándome a hacer lo mismo (también bastante chocante que sea yo como alumna quien tenga que caer en la cuenta y recordarle al profesor las normas de su plataforma, negándome a saltármelas; sobre todo porque esta profesora no era precisamente una novata en Verbling). Y el colmo de los colmos, un supuesto profesor británico con diez años de experiencia que empieza diciéndome básicamente que no le interesa mi solicitud para pasar luego a cuestionar mis intenciones y soltarme una sarta de contradicciones y absurdeces quejándose de lo mucho que trabaja y lo poco que cobra, con paranoias respecto a si voy a tratarlo 'con desprecio' y afirmando que yo no necesito ayuda, para finalmente admitir que está teniendo un mal día y reafirmar como un robot que yo no necesito ayuda. Yo entiendo que uno tema que le vayan a 'manchar' su perfil público con una review negativa, pero es que su desconfianza no tenía ni pies ni cabeza; sólo tenía que pensar en que, si ésa hubiera sido mi intención, ¿por qué entonces le había dicho claramente que yo también soy profesora? ¿Y por qué molestarme en darle explicaciones o hacerle saber que iba a reportarlo? Porque sí, terminé reportándolo, ya que me parece que cualquier profesor con un mínimo de dignidad y profesionalidad debería mostrar un nivel básico de educación y saber estar, y evitar al menos maltratar a potenciales alumnos, que flaco favor le está haciendo a su plataforma con esa actitud. La verdad es que fue surrealista, tener que justificarme de esa forma como si yo hubiera hecho algo malo, me parece que el tipo en cuestión o bien tenía realmente un serio trastorno mental y necesitaba unas vacaciones desesperadamente, o era un fraude total (ni siquiera su forma de expresarse por escrito en inglés parecía ser la de un nativo). Encima me dice que lo estoy amenazando y a su vez amenaza con reportarme a mí, es que es para partirse. De hecho, ya había decidido desistir de mi búsqueda y cancelar mi cuenta, puesto que el proceso de búsqueda de profesor no podría haber sido más cansino, contraproducente y repulsivo; y en realidad tengo que agradecerles a todos estos profesionales que me hicieran ver a tiempo el panorama para así evitar invertir un céntimo. Para contactar con Soporte sólo hay un icono que abre una especia de chat donde, al poner tu mensaje, te sale una notificación automática de que Verbling suele responder en 24 horas y justo me responden casi en ese tiempo: que lo sienten, que investigarán el incidente y que le darán un aviso al tipo. Por eso les doy 2 estrellas y no una. En conjunto, un desbarajuste y una nefasta experiencia. Tenía la impresión de que era un sitio con buena reputación y muy fiable, pero la realidad es que, al menos a día de hoy, deja muchísimo que desear. Más quisieran estar a la altura de plataformas como italki.

There are simply better options. Verbling has several limitations that the other platforms do not: 1. Verbling prevents you from contacting or corresponding with your selected teacher in any manner other than through Verbling's website. It will not permit you to share a Skype address or email address. This seems somewhat paranoid as Preply and Italki both permit this. I simply prefer Skype for my classes. Verbling prohibits this. 2. When you are searching for a teacher, Verbling will show you three possibilities then pauses to load further options. I am not certain why these delays are required by Verbling...does it create a dramatic effect? 3. By simply scheduling a single class, you receive a number of notifications and are awarded with various "badges". You literally receive "reward notifications" for "reaching out" and other simply silliness. Verbling has a function and if it were the only similar platform, it would be fine. However, Preply and Italki (especially) are simply better options.

Huge mistake not to accept non-native teachers. They often have a much better understanding of how the language works and can often relate to people who are learning the language more deeply that native speakers.

While the classes are good and many of the teachers are excellent, the customer support is ridiculous. It is taking almost a week to get just a reply to a complaint in the live chat. While I understand communication delays, almost a week to acknowledge a complaint amounts to terrible customer service.

It used to be a litle better and now it is just not good. It looks like they are charging for more fees to the students and still taking a percentage of what teachers earn. Besides that, nobody knows how the teacher's rate work. They are getting less and less students and accepting a bunch of teachers. Many of them are expensive but they are qualified. You probably won't get many students for months. Also, they have this "lesson packages" which basically makes a student buy a bunch of lessons with you and then if they don't schedule all of these lessons, you don't get paid of course. So, the teacher is having a lesson with you for a lower price that you are offering it and then, you get paid less and you don't get pay for all the lessons. Verbling does take the money from this package but we as teachers don't get any of this money. If students feel frustrated with this, imagine how teachers feel. Also, the platform is not the greatest to teach. Skype is way better. The only thing I like is the variety of feedack that a student can offer to a teacher.
