I am penning this letter to let everyone know the incompetence of the UMB bank HSA/FSA division. On 8/17/26 I spoke with Katina a customer service rep on what steps I would need to take to dispute a double charge on My HSA card. My payment plan was for $89 per month until the balance of $179 was paid in full. Katina advised me to contact the merchant to see id they would be willing to refund me the extra $89. I hung up the phone with her and contacted the merchant who in return did admit they did overcharge me for the month of August and that I should see a refund of $89 within a week. I waited a week but never received the refund from the merchant. I contacted UMB this time I spoke with Cetera to advise the merchant did not give me the refund as promised. Cetera advised me that I would receive a provisional credit of $89 to my HSA card and she also stated I would need to fill out an Affidavit form and snail mail it back to them. She did not advise me that I also had the option of emailing the form directly to the UMB research department. I just found that out this week as we are now in September. I called back again an spoke with Jezarel and another time I spoke with Autumn all to see if anyone had received the affidavit I mailed back in August. Someone from UMB called and left a message that I could email the affidavit directly to the UMB research department, this is a month later. So eventually the affidavit is forwarded to Susan Durham who then emails me to send her a copy of my payment plan with the merchant. I send this information to her and have to end up emailing her to see if she received it. She contacts me back to say sorry since everyone else dropped the ball with your dispute case since August it's September now so you would owe the merchant anyway. Now mind you I never received a provisional credit back in August. I asked Susan who could I loge a complaint to and she stated she did not know who or how to do that. Now Susan works in frauds and dispute so she deals with complaints all day long so this was odd to me. I asked Susan for her managers name which she stated is Sarah Woltje and that she would have her to contact me. Susan called ma back a few minutes later and stated that Sarah would be emailing or calling me back once she got her "Ducks in a row" whatever that means. About an hour later Terri the customer care manager and I break down everything that has happened since August 17th and she too states well since its September I would owe the merchant $89. By the way Terri did not know who I could loge a complaint to either. Just such incompetence across the board for a dispute that should have been handled a month ago and also within a weeks time, 2 weeks at the most. It makes me wonder if UMB was intentionally dropping the ball and passing the buck to run out the clock to not have to do a dispute for me in the first place. All I can say is buyer beware of this incompetent company whether you are banking with them or you have an HSA/FSA account with them because of 6 employees no one seemed to know what they were doing. Huge waste of time. Their loan officers flat out tell you to perjure yourself to the underwriters regarding the use of HELOC loan money. You can have very high equity and credit score but they will tell you to put down on the application that the money will be used for home improvements when you have zero intent to do home improvements. They go so far as to tell you to describe the home improvements that you are making to the underwriters. And you know that you're going to sign something stating that everything on your application is true less you risk having the loan called and them demanding the money back. UMB employees were brazen in telling me to do this. Not doing it!

Absolutely garbage bank. They can't even produce basic reports. When you call in for help, they just transfer you around and put you on hold for forever - horrendous experience. Interface looks like its from 1998

I have an 835 credit score, and they just rejected my credit card application. What a terrible bank!!!!!

UMB Bank took over my loved NMB-T in Albuquerqu, NM. I loved my bank and the customer service on every level. They treated me like family, never had any banking issues and always easy to handle any type of situation. Without going into detail I will just say UMB is the WORST bank I've ever dealt with. If it was just my checking acct. and not a specialized account that is held here, I would be gone so fast! I want to wipe my hands clean of this bank with it's poor performance, cold, impersonal, rude and terrible customer service. It asks below for date of experience...since day one!! I went into my branch one day, all familiar faces gone. Instead met by disinterested, cold, unfriendly blank personalities. Sad...

Terrible bank. I wish I had switched sooner. I have a checking account and debit card through them. My card info was stolen in December and I asked for a new card. The card never came in. Called again for another new card, the card still hasn’t come in 3 months later. A couple years back I went into one of their locations to change my last name. Gave them my wedding cert info and everything. They said I was good to go. They called me to come back in a second time to sign an additional document. Left trusting they would do their part…Two years later I’ve just found out they failed to make the change! Either their employees have no idea what they’re doing or the entire system as a whole is broken.

The Salinas branch of UMB is engaging in discriminatory practices against me regarding my account. My account is relatively new, and I have made several deposits, including a major deposit of $20,000, which was one of the first large deposits. I have several other deposits pending. My experience with them has been very unpleasant. They lied to me about the funds being released by the other bank, making it seem as if the other bank was withholding the funds, which is false. I have evidence to support this. I informed them that they had placed a hold on my account. I never requested the full amount to be withdrawn; I only asked for $2,700. Due to recent events in Mexico—my brother was tragically killed there—we needed to fly his body to California. I told them this when I called the customer service manager, Iman, who was very helpful. He contacted the branch that placed the hold on my funds. He said that the hold could be lifted and some of the funds released, but the branch denied this request. I feel that they are discriminating against me. The bank is very intrusive; whenever I enter the branch, not one, but two tellers pull up my account and review it openly. I find this to be a severe violation of privacy. The bank does not respect customer confidentiality in any way.

I spent a great deal of time unfreezing my credit twice and then increasing my credit limit just so I could use the card at Apmex. Every transaction I tried to buy gold with the card stalled and forced me to wait days and one time a week see if the charge went through and it never went through and my purchases were under my credit limit and I tried calling numerous times and never got a return call explaining why...I learned local dealers will beat Apmex prices so I've given up... Wasted so many hours for no reason
