My O-1A was petitioned by my own early-stage startup, so I knew the interview could get tricky. Yvette saw that in our first session. She told me my background was strong, and she was upfront that the founder and company relationship was where an officer would push the most. She helped me explain it clearly and openly, and then brought in Maggie, a former visa officer who had served in India, for a second mock interview. Before these sessions, my wife and I had been practising at home: the same questions, in the same order, every time. Yvette and Maggie asked them differently, moved between topics and followed up on what I said and stress tested me as strict consular officers, and that is what happened at the consulate. The officer phrased questions in ways I hadn't rehearsed and asked them in no particular order. What I valued most came after. My case went into administrative processing after the interview for a few days, and then I was called back to the consulate just for fingerprinting with no explanation. It was an uncertain week. Maggie replied the next day with a calm, clear read of what it likely meant, and she was right. Hearing it from someone who had sat on the other side of the window made the wait much easier. Our visas were approved on 21 September. Thank you both, it meant a lot.
