The customer service is horrible. When my mom was dying and spent literal hours and hours on the phone with them I thought she was losing her mind a bit but oh how I have learned better. I cannot overstate how incompetent and annoying this financial organization is. You won’t believe it until you are trying to reach a human how bad. Worse by far than cable companies of the ‘90’s holding you hostage. Have fun dealing with them if you are unlucky enough to have to.

They sent my money to the wrong bank. I had closed my account at that bank changed on TIAA online system verified new account. Closed account is not on my profile. I called and TIAA said my fault because I should have called them and reminded? What? I followed their protocol. I don't work for TIAA. Horrible customer service now I have to wait 10 days for my money???

My university(employer) forces us to use this platform, but their service is far below industry standards. It takes four full business days to execute a simple mutual fund order through their brokerage. To make matters worse, you have no visibility or control over the execution price—by the time the trade finally clears, the price has shifted 4–5% against you. Waiting almost a week for a basic transaction with zero price protection is completely unprofessional and outdated.

Extremely difficult to reach a human, impossible to move funds to a different investment firm. The traditional annuity my former employer set-up has a terrible rate of return and there is nothing I can do to change how these funds are invested. This fund is worthless and TIAA customer service is nonexistent. Not sure why employers choose to work with this company.

I have been a financial advisor for nearly 40 years, and based on my personal experience, TIAA has been the most difficult financial company I have worked with. On numerous occasions, I have called with clients to assist with existing distributions, payment issues, or rollover requests. In my experience, the representatives have often been overly aggressive or condescending whenever a client expresses interest in moving assets out of the company. Another concern is that some TIAA products require a portion of a client's assets to be distributed over a period of up to 10 years rather than allowing immediate access through a lump-sum rollover. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering TIAA to thoroughly understand these restrictions before investing. Personally, I would choose to work with a different company. Don't walk away, RUN!

I've made 4 phone calls to them and they still haven't resolved my issue. If you can, stay far away from this company because no one knows what they are doing. It has been an awful experience.

How the mighty have fallen. I set up a recurring systematic cash withdrawal in 2025 on my retirement account. With the way my account is set-up I receive two checks. In 2025 the process was completed correctly. This year I only received one of the checks. TIAA notified me of the check that I received, but nothing as to why the other one didn't come. When I called they told me that someone had put it on hold. No explanation why. They escalated the inquiry up. Called back today and they still haven't looked into it. Ask to speak to a supervisor, but was told at 5:01PM EST that they had gone home and I would get a call back by noon time tomorrow. I am not even sure you could call this service bad as it is no service.

THE WEBSITE IS NOT CUSTOMER FRIENDLY ONLY POSITIONED TO TO REFER CLIENTS TO MONEY MANAGERS(WEALTH ADVISORS) TO MAKE MONEY FOR TIAA. DOESNT WORK FOR THE SELF INVESTOR DIFFICULT TO MANAGE ACCOUNTS. PART OF THE WEBSITE ONLY CAN BE ACCESSED BY THE ADVISORS.
