Thrive works canceled my appointment without talking to me
My psychiatrist is great, but thriveworks is just as money hungry as any other medical assistant program. They don’t care about helping you or making life easier. Just money. I hope our lives are worth a few 100!

Therapists/Counselors are a JOKE
It feels like the therapists/counselors are literally just here for a paycheck and have no knowledge or care for what they are doing. What is the point of intake forms if they are not going to be read before or at least at the beginning of the session. With two different therapists/counselors they didn’t read the forms at all and spent a quarter to half our session re-asking the same questions I had already answered. The second therapist I spoke with was ready to dismiss me after a 20 minute conversation, stating I have no history of depression or anxiety so she thinks I will be fine, I asked her if she read what I wrote in my intake form about previous history with depression she said “no”. How can you tell me I have no history when you 1.) didn’t read my history on the intake form and 2.) didn’t ASK me about my history in our chat. I would absolutely NEVER recommend anyone to come to thriveworks, anything these counselors tell you, you can find in a YouTube video, or you can hear from your friends and family. Everything about thriveworks has been a waste of my time and money.

A complete waste of my time
A complete waste of my time. Before contacting thrive works I told them I moved to Virginia Beach from out of state and I need to speak with a psychiatrist ,specifically, regarding continuing my medications. For my first appointment they made it with a nurse practitioner, even though I told them I need a psychiatrist. I spent over an hour with the nurse practitioner and at the end of the appointment she told me she can’t prescribe medications. They shouldn’t have even made the appointment because I was very clear from thr beginning on what I needed. They not only wasted my term but also provided absolutely nothing to help with this. Now I have to find a psychiatrist who can continue my meds. I will never work with them again
Response from ThriveworksOct 9, 2026
Hi Nicholas, we’re sorry this appointment didn’t lead to the medications you were looking for. That’s a stressful spot to be in, and we want to understand how scheduling got off track. If you’re open to it, please reach out to us directly at [email protected] with your name, phone number, and details of the issue. We’ll look into your account and work together from there.

Don’t Respond to Reviews Pretending You Want to Help If You’re Just Going to Double Down
I’m writing a second review because Thriveworks’ response to my original Trustpilot review somehow made this experience even WORSE!!!!!
After I posted my original review about being charged a $135 late cancellation fee because I became unexpectedly ill, Thriveworks publicly responded that they were sorry to hear what happened. They specifically acknowledged that I was charged for “an illness you couldn’t have predicted” and said that, especially after I had been told my situation deserved a closer look, my frustration was understandable.
They then asked me to email their Success Team with my information and a description of what happened so they could “look into this further.”
So I did…….
I took additional time to write another detailed email explaining the situation, the documented illness, and exactly what I was requesting: reconsideration and a refund of the $135 fee.
And what did I get back?
An explanation of their 48-hour cancellation policy, as though I wasn’t aware!!!!! The policy was literally the reason for my original complaint.
When I responded and pointed out that they had completely avoided answering my actual request, I specifically asked them to give me a direct answer: Was Thriveworks going to reconsider and refund the $135 fee due to my documented, unexpected illness?
They finally answered: No. The fee will stand and cannot be refunded.
Then, unbelievably, they proceeded to explain the 48-hour cancellation policy to me AGAIN, including why they changed the policy in 2023 and how they believe it provides clients with “ample flexibility.”
What was the point of publicly asking me to contact you so you could “look into this further” if there was apparently nothing to look into?
If the answer was always going to be, “The policy is the policy and the fee stands,” you could have said that in your public response. Instead, your response gave the appearance that you were concerned about what happened and that contacting you might lead to an actual review of my individual circumstances.
Also, telling a dissatisfied client that you are available if they need a space to “vent any frustrations” is not customer service. I wasn’t contacting Thriveworks because I needed somewhere to vent. I contacted you because your company asked me to contact you so you could look into my situation further.
There is a difference between hearing a customer’s issue and resolving it!
At this point, I have canceled all of my remaining sessions with my therapist and will not use Thriveworks again. You shall not get another red cent from me!!!!!!
If you respond publicly to negative reviews inviting customers to contact you for further assistance, there should be a genuine purpose behind that invitation. Otherwise, it feels like reputation management rather than customer service.
Thriveworks, Riley R. (The Account Supervisor) didn’t resolve my complaint. She reinforced it!!!
Your 1-star stands valid!!!!

Hi Tiffanie, you're right that our earlier response suggested there was more we could do, and that's not how things turned out. We're sorry that added to your frustration. We appreciate you being so direct with us, and we wish you the best as you continue your care.

Predatory billing practices + Refuse to send refund that was confirmed by billing
I began seeing a couples therapist in 2026 through
Thriveworks. Throughout my time utilizing thrive works, I put
my FSA health reimbursement card on file for
autopayments. My currently employer is very strict about
requiring EOBs and receipts from health providers for any
charges through my account. My benefits department
began flagging charges from Thrive works, saying they
required further authorization. Upon looking into the
charges put on my card vs. the charges billed to my
insruance, I became aware that Thrivesworks was
fraudently charging my card, not only for the full amount of
sessions despite my insurance covering upwards of 80% of
each session, they also were receiving payment from
insurance. In addition to this predatory practices, I found 3x
separate charges of $160 withdrawn from my FSA account. I
received a itemized receipt from Thriveworks, who showed
these charges were not attached to any sessions I received
and had no insurance code or description attached to them.
After bringing this to the Thriveworks Billing departmentthey could offer me a refund of $301.48. I received email
confirmation saying that I would be issued a paper check for
this refund. It has been a month and I have still not received
any check from Thriveworks. Anytime I call, they give me
the same run around answer and say to call back. When I
have requested to speak with upper management in the
billing department, I was told I would be contacted directly
by them on 3 occasions, and have yet to receive any sort of
communication from them. I will be filing a predatory billing
claim with my State Attorney's office and will take additional
legal action if this is not resolved ASAP.

This company is a scam
This company is a scam. They told me my insurance company would cover pretty much the whole cost and copay will be $25 or free. It’s $395 to see someone. They said my insurance only covered $181.53 and I have to pay $213.47 out of pocket. Then they told me to deal with my insurance. Predatory practices.
Response from ThriveworksOct 1, 2026
Hi David, getting a cost estimate that didn't match your actual bill is a lot to deal with, especially after being told to sort it out with your insurance on your own. We'd like to look into this. For privacy reasons, please reach out to us directly at [email protected] with your name, phone number, and a brief description of the issue. We'll review your account and figure things out together.
